Plant Manager

Bucyrus America, Inc. is currently seeking a Plant Manager for our Hillsville, VA belt conveyor facility.  The summary and responsibilities of this position are as follows: 

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the manufacturing of  idlers & conveyor products. This responsibility includes personnel management as well as plant communications, safety, quality, plant maintenance cost efficiency & continuous improvement programs.

 ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1.       Must meet Management Standards by organizing and/or approving production schedules in the various departments to ensure that quotas are met and finished goods inventories and shipments are maintained at the proper level.  Controls flow of materials and utilization of labor to ensure adequate production required to meet deadlines.  Communicates external delivery schedules to the appropriate business unit.

 

2.       Reviews inventories of material stored for jobs to ensure accuracy and to see that the purchasing department is aware of the inventory status of each item.  

 

3.       Directs and approves appropriate requisitions for maintenance, repair of building, equipment, machine parts, and manufacturing supplies.  Recommends and/or makes improvements in machinery and equipment and in manufacturing methods.

 

4.       Coordinates allocation and use of personnel to ensure fulfillment of production schedules in all departments at the lowest possible cost.  Interviews and selects internal/external candidates for open positions within the department.

 

5.       Directs operation of the department and guides supervisors/lead persons in the performance of their duties.  Maintains excellent employee relations and adherence to DBT policy, takes proper and judicious disciplinary measures when required, assists supervisors/lead persons in first steps of progressive discipline. Responsible for progressive discipline up to and/or including termination with the advice and direction of Human Resources.

 

6.       Prioritized schedules to support end item build plans are provided to subassembly areas.  Keeps assembly status/progress records of subassembly and end item project kits updated continuously during the movement of these materials between the various functional areas. 

 

7.       Ensures that material shortage is expedited via the production planning and scheduling sections of material control for those kits that are not issued 'short free' or for replacement materials.  Identifies and addresses the need for concentrated or additional work effort in any bottleneck area.

 

8.       Recommends continuous improvement opportunities in management operations and ISO procedures. (This is for the near future)

 

9.       Identify needed labor and ensure that necessary effort is applied in production bottleneck areas to ensure correct flow of material to meet the production schedule.

 

10.    Ultimately responsible for budgeting and financial responsibilities within direct business unit.

 

11.    Performs special projects as assigned by Vice President-Production.

 EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

¨       High school degree or G.E.D.  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business desirable. 

¨       Ten plus years of experience directly related to manufacturing, with at least five years’ experience as a management representative.

¨       A full knowledge of Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP—a computerized material control program), is required.  Also procedural knowledge (SAP, T.O.C. op-sheets, etc.) and good people-management / communication skills are required.

¨       Knowledge of budgeting and expense control to plan, implement and maximize expenditure of funds while maintaining quality standards.

¨       Excellent oral & written communication skills are essential with a practical systematic approach to solving problems.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

The position requires an individual to sit, stand, and walk the majority of time. Occasional bending stretching and stooping required. Ability to lift, turn and move objects up to and including 50 pounds. Typical plant environmental exposure requires a high degree of attention required to prevent injury to others.
