Position Description:

Job Title: Polymer Shakes SupervisorDepartment: Injection Molding Reports To: Scott Hawkins – Injection Molding ManagerDate: October 29, 2007GENERAL FUNCTION: Provide leadership and direction to the Polymer Shakes Production shift personnel on production requirements affecting the daily shift operations so we are able to provide finished product to meet our customer’s needs as identified through a production schedule. Delegate daily job assignments, record and report daily production numbers while insuring product quality specifications are satisfied for both internal as well as external agencies such as ISO 9001. Work with safety team to insure employee safety. Work with shift personnel establishing training needs, safety issues 5S development in a team based organization. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Safety – 25%? Eliminate the risk for injury throughout plant and shift? Responsible for day to day safety activity? Ensure safe work environment in plant? Complete Stop Audits at least 4 / month? Complete assigned monthly safety walk through? Complete monthly assigned machine guarding audit? Identify, eliminate, and / or communicate any unsafe conditions? Ensure shift is up to date Clarity ? Lead investigation of all accidents on shift? Encourage Near Miss program and promptly address all near misses on shift? Ensure work stations are setup ergonomically? Ensure employees are complying to all PPE requirements? Compliance and enforcement of all CertainTeed Molded Product’s Safety Policies? Ensure shift attendance at various monthly safety meetingsQuality – 20%? Be able to understand and communicate what a good quality part? Responsible for all aspects of quality on shift? Hold monthly quality meetings in conjunction with QC personnel? Support / abide by all ISO procedures? Ensure product is packaged correctly and neatly with correct labelingProduction – 50%? Responsible for all aspects of production including:o Cycle Time? Meeting the minimum production standards set o Pack Rates ? Meeting the minimum production standards seto 5% Yearly Productivity Rateo Reduction and Reuse of regrindo Reduction of Scrapo Responsible for accurate daily production reports complete in a timely mannero KRONOS Payroll System – responsible for the signoff during payroll weekso Managing the headcount on shift to maximize productivity with least amount of personnelo Troubleshooting Injection Molding Processo Troubleshooting auxiliary equipment (conveyors, thermolators, color blenders, etc.)o Responsible for filling out work orders for both maintenance and toolingo Yearly reviews for all hourly employees on shifto Progression planning for key employees on shifto Attend weekly supervisor meeting (Monday mornings)o Attend daily production meetings (while on shift 7:30 am and 1:15 pm) Night (7:30 am)o Work together with supporting groups (Maintenance, Tooling, Quality, Process Techs)o Communicate training needs for personnel to appropriate peopleo Responsible for assigning responsibly and authority to employees related to their ability and trainingo Coordination of all activities relating to production with support groupso Supervisor ultimately responsible for entire plant at night and weekendso Identify and implement cost savings project throughout planto Responsible for technical staff on shift (Process Techs and Setups)o Ensure compliance to CertainTeed Injection Molding Handbooko Issue discipline to employees as needed and spelled out in the handbooko Responsible for management of vacation and attendance of shifto Support projects and assignment from supervisoro Support CertainTeed Molded Product’s goals and planso Maintain MADE boardsTeamwork – 5%? Be an active team member of the various Steering Committee chartered teams? Encourage employees on shift to join teams? At least one employee / shift must be on safety, ergonomics, and training teamPROBLEM-SOLVING -- Briefly describe the nature of decision-making or problem-solving which is a part of this position. Include the extent to which this position is governed by established practices, rules, regulations, manuals, counsel/advice, and independent thinking.Decision will be made that can affect the production thru put of the plant in turn affecting service to our customers. Issues addressed involve product quality, employee relations, safety and require judgement from supervisor based on the understanding of policies in place. Indenification of problem with a recommended plan for a solution as defined through sound communication skills will enhance continuous improvement of the process and employee development.KNOWLEDGE -- Indicate the minimum level of formal education and work experience which is required to carry out the responsibilities of this position. When considering the experience requirement, assume that the education standard has been satisfied. Include any special knowledge, certification or license, which is required.Must be able to effectively manage hourly shift personnel and work as part of a team with other shifts and with other departments. Must have a two-year college degree along with computer and supervisory skills or equivalent supervisory experience. Must be able to make decisions and possess high integrity, be a self-starter and able to lead personnel. Must have good communication skills.
