Potroom Technical Coordinator (Aluminum Smelting)

This position reports directly to the Potroom Technical Area Supervisor and has responsibility to lead a production unit consisting of two potlines with accountability for optimizing technical performance in these potlines. In addition, role includes activities around production, coordination of maintenance, crane/equipment availability for preventative maintenance and coordination of potlining activity in assigned lines. In addition the position is responsible for environmental activities with special emphasis on safety, cost control, and ABS.

Primary Functions include:

• This position is single point accountable to the Potroom Technical Area Supervisor for everything that occurs in the two potlines assigned related to achieving KPI goals.

• Ensure compliance with all potroom safety procedures, policies, SSOP’s, and PPE.

• Oversee daily operation of potroom production with emphasis on current efficiency, volts per pot, lbs. per pot day, operating pot complement, anode effects, high purity practices (if assigned), liquid levels, and ratio control in the assigned lines.

• Ensure compliance to environmental requirements and MACT requirements through continuing to educate and coach personnel in the assigned area as necessary to ensure continued compliance. Identify and resolve process/equipment concerns related to environmental requirements.

• Develop Unit Supervisors through effective coaching, counseling, applied training, providing feedback, and establishment of priorities. While it is the Shift Supervisor’s responsibility to train, correct behavior problems, and discipline hourly employees on shift, the Technical Coordinator should provide coaching as necessary and provide feedback to the Shift Supervisors to follow-up on.

• Coordinate between Ingot, Atomizer, and Electrode customers/suppliers as necessary to meet production goals.

• Coordinate maintenance and construction activities in the assigned areas and coordinate crane/equipment availability for preventative maintenance and potlining activities.

• Work with other Technical Coordinators to help coordinate allocation of power during interruptions.

• Work through computer process control systems to maximize the potline and individual pots in the assigned potlines.

• Provide input to Shift Supervisors on Line Supervisor performance and be a part of the Line and Shift Supervisor feedback system to support Performance Management.

• Incorporate ABS tools into potline operations.

Basic Qualifications:
B.S. in Engineering or technical related field; Five (5) years experience in the aluminum smelting, engineering, maintenance or related technical and supervisory assignments; Basic computer literacy; Good knowledge of potroom computer programs and tools.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge and experience in smelting processes and plant operations; Management, human relations and administrative skills.
