Job Description Process Development Engineer Job Title: Process Development EngineerReports To: Director of Quality and Operational Excellence Role Objective: Process Development Engineer is an important role within the Process Systems business unit and reports directly to the Director of Quality and Operational Excellence. This position is responsible for driving Operational Excellence initiatives across two sites within the BU. The selected candidate leads continuous improvement activities using Practical Process Improvement (PPI), lean principles, and operational keys to drive improvement in support of business unit financial and productivity goals. The successful candidate will need to possess the following characteristics: strong leadership, results oriented, operational/process excellence, strategic thinking balanced with the ability to execute, the ability to influence across functional disciplines. Primary Responsibilities: Drive Operational Excellence and focus on productivity improvements throughout the business unit. Provide guidance and leadership into business unit operations working closely production, quality and other functional teams in support of the business unit’s strategic and annual operating plan. Serve as the PPI program coordinator for the Sugar Land site. Manage day to day PPI activity ensuring the business unit is making solid use of PPI methodology to drive higher levels of process improvement, customer satisfaction, and profitable growth. Implement and coach lean methodology to achieve a ‘lean business’ model across the business. Focus on the velocity of improved processes, low cost / high quality products, and customer satisfaction. Foster teamwork and break down barriers to advance continuous improvement. Drive the business unit to a lean learning environment. Ensure business unit KBMs are tracked and acted upon utilizing PPI to drive continuous improvement to achieve KBM goals. Develop, implement, and monitor operational excellence programs to improve business performance. Provide leadership and training in PPI methodology and lean principles to improve productivity and business performance. Coordinate and conduct OE and PPI training within the business unit Develop PPI Process Managers and team facilitators across the business. Lead and guide our transition to a lean business model while ensuring the product quality requirements are met. Evaluate manufacturing systems, corrective action programs, and quality performance across the business. Other responsibilities as required.General Education and Background Requirements: BS in engineering with minimum 5 years process development experience in a manufacturing environment with strong background in process control and statistical techniques. MBA desired, not required. 5 years experience in coaching lean principles (DFT) and quality theory with formalized training in each discipline. Successful track record of driving and facilitating team-based improvement processes using PPI or similar methods, and a range of process improvement tools. Outstanding problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Proven ability to effectively interact with and coordinate activities multiple sites. Excellent project management skills. Experience leading complex and large cost reduction and continuous improvement projects. Demonstrated track record of cost reduction, quality improvement, and process improvement. Hands on experience working with internal personnel, and suppliers in the implementation of root cause corrective action based on failure analysis results. Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Project. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
