Job purpose

Rexam Plastics Packaging in Franklin, IN is seeking a dynamic, ambitious and innovative engineer that can lead multiple engineering projects in a rapidly changing manufacturing company.

Accountabilities

Responsibilities include performing technical and project engineering duties to improve product manufacturing performance,reduce costs, improve methods assist department heads, plant engineering and production manager.  Responsible for rebuilds/revisions to existing equipment and installation/qualifications of new product lines and equipment.  Provide technical assistance on a diverse range of operational problems.  Investigates low efficiency jobs to determine cause of poor performance.  Analyzes cycle times, operating parameters, yield/utilization, PPM, machine setup, handling, and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements or replacement.  Works closely with Production Manager and Plant Engineer in recommending changes in product design, redesign of equipment, etc.  Gives technical advice and assistance on job installations and setups.  May prepare detailed drawings/plans.  Performs industrial engineering studies to determine proper equipment layout and labor or machine utilization.  Prepares 901, budget, expenditure justification requests, and other costs estimates on projects.  Responsible for overseeing equipment modifications or installation in the plant.  Is involved in development, installation and qualification process(s).  May interview vendors regarding new products or equipment which could have application and use in the plant.



Responsibility also includes training and re-training hourly employees, particularly machine operators, process tech and maintenance team.  Attend various production meetings to discuss and resolve problems in manufacturing areas.  Investigate customer complaints and offer recommendations for corrective actions.  Follow through with results, reports assigned CARs.  Interaction with customers or new or existing business, design modifications or issue resolution.  Lead teams if necessary to facilitate continuous improvement efforts.  Actively participates in safety initiatives and programs. 

Knowledge, skills and experience

Mechanical Engineering degree (associate's minimum, bachelor's degree desired) and/or manufacturing experience in high speed automation manufacturing, mechanical processes, machine repairs and secondary operations.  Experience in mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and ladder logic programming desired.
