Position Summary

Sleep Innovations is seeking a highly professional individual who will be the primary technical development resource for market category (pillow, topper, mattress, accessory and growth).  Must manage product life cycle design including material selection, business case IP, feasibility and life cycle for product category.  Needs to understand the technical and production issues related to new product development and translate ideas and marketing needs into products that can be reproduced or outsourced to hit the desired margin hurdle.  Brings structure to creative process, works with Product Designer and Purchasing to minimize component cost and complexity and uses reverse engineering and cost estimation of competitive products to determine best company market positioning. 

 

This position reports to the Vice President of Product Development.

 

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  — Project management for new product development

  — Develop project charters, new product development work-plans, and time line

— Interface with Ideation and Product Marketing to ensure a profitable stream of new products

  — Product design and material selection (with purchasing)

  — Follow Stage-gating methodology to ensure profitable new product development

  — Manage customer and regulatory requirements (labels, tags and testing)

  — Business intelligence and reverse engineering of competitive products

  — Develop cost estimates for new products

  — Manage product/SKU proliferation and complexity (with Product Marketing)

  — Develop prototype market samples and customer samples

  — Accountable for development time and new product introductions as well as new product margin (when

price points are pre-established)

  — Work in a cross-functional team environment

 

 

Education & Experience

— 3-5 years experience in product development

— Engineering or technical degree (possible to substitute extensive actual experience)

— Project management experience (PMP certification preferred)

— Strong analytical, problem solving and management time skills

— Detail oriented

— Ability to multi-task and maintain critical time lines

— Excellent communication skills

— Team oriented

— Demonstrated computer skills Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Access
