Product Engineer - Module Applications

Position Description:

 

This position will be responsible for the application of GSE’s thin film technology into solar module manufacturers existing equipment and process to support string sales.  The person who fills this position will be working with internal and external engineering teams to implement module assembly process and material systems; consult with architects and installers to resolve technical issues; and provide technical support to GSE’s sales and marketing team.

 

Position-Related Responsibilities:

· Design of glass modules using thin-film PV materials

· Direction of engineering and fabrication of prototypes

· Expert resource in the materials, methods and properties of thin-film based glass modules.

· Education and interaction with customers and partners to guide their development and production efforts to ensure successful module performance. 

· Work closely with customers, architects, installers, and engineers to understand and help resolve technical issues related to the thin-film modules

· Responsible for or assist in all certification efforts that validate modules and system components against standards and specifications required by customers and industry (Perform UL, IEC, and TUV Qualification tests)

· Improve product quality through failure analysis and root cause identification

· Redesign of product and/or provide recommendations for redesigns of process and process equipment to increase product life or lower production costs

· Gather, monitor, and assess performance data obtained from installations of modules

· Perform detailed technical competitive analysis of solar modules

· Provide technical documentation as required for sales and marketing

 

 

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

· BS Engineering required; BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred

· Two to three years experience with solar module manufacturing and/or design required

· Demonstrated knowledge of the solar industry—including solar module design and fabrication, inverters, battery chargers, batteries, and grid connection principals.

· Knowledge of photovoltaic market, technologies, components, and customers

· Project management experience helpful

· Familiarity with NEC codes and appropriate building codes a plus

· Familiar with AutoCAD and SolidWorks

· Familiar with industry standard solar module certification, safety tests, and requirements

· Superior written and oral communication skills

· Team player with strong customer service skills
