Product Specialist
PIPS Technology is a developer and manufacturer of automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) systems. Acquired in 2007, PIPS Technology is part of the Safety and Security Systems Group, a division of Federal Signal Corporation, a $1.2B company. This division designs and manufactures a suite of products and integrated solutions for municipal, governmental and industrial customers.
PIPS Technology, with offices in Hampshire, United Kingdom, and Knoxville, Tenn., is a global leader in the design and manufacture of ALPR systems and optical character recognition software. ALPR solutions are used in control and surveillance applications in markets such as traffic and tolling, law enforcement, public safety and access control. ALPR-enabled cameras are used on emergency vehicles and mounted on stationary support structures at access entry and tolling points to capture license plate details for tolling, congestion zone charging and law enforcement purposes. The license plate recognition technology is being leveraged across Federal Signal's enterprise-wide portfolio, thus expanding the comprehensive portfolio of municipal security solutions.
We are currently seeking a Product Specialist for our operations in Knoxville, TN.
Typical duties for this position would include:
•Provide subject matter expertise across PIPS complete product offering, and across market segments.
•Help draft technical responses to RFP’s and customer requests and provides an interface for voice of customer (VOC) input into the product development process.
•Conduct or assist in field demonstrations of the technology, and provide both customer and field sales training as needed.
•Support Federal Signal sales organization, assisting sales to generate sales revenue.
•Provide pre-sale support to Regional Sales Managers helping them to provide solutions to satisfy customer request.
•Support sales prospects and provide product demonstrations.
•Review technical aspects of RFP’s and customer request and provides input to the sales team on responses.
•Provide pricing on unique items in the RFP or development initiatives to support sales.
•Provide an interface between sales and development on special request for RFP clarifications and/or special development request.
•Provide VOC input into Product Development, drafting Requirements documents to guide proper allocation of resources and prioritization.
•Provide products training to sales and customers.
•Interface with Project Management to help facilitate the success deployment of unique solutions
•Conduct / assist with field demonstrations of technology.
•Provide training for customers and/or field sales staff.
Requirements for this position include:
•Bachelors degree in an engineering or a business degree with a very strong technical skillset and/or similar work experience in a technical product environment would be considered.
•3 to 5 years of related work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or in lieu of a Bachelors degree, the candidate must have 5 to 10 years of related work experience as a Product Specialist.
•3 to 5 years of consultative, strategic, value-based sales skills, preferably in software or a related technology.
•Excellent time management skills.
•Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
•Ability to manage multiple requests and priorities.
•Ability to develop and price proposals and the ability to give training presentations.
•Strong team player able to communicate effectively with multiple disciplines.
•Willingness to travel (domestic and international) between 25% to 40%.
