QC Technician/Seafood Processor

Inspects the quality of incoming and outgoing product to ensure that it meets specifications, and trains employees to properly handle product.  Also ensures plant sanitation is acceptable through inspection and education of employees, and observes processing lines to ensure proper handling of product.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs sanitation inspection prior to startup each day, and prepares report for cleanup crew and management.   2. Determines glazes and sets outgoing weights in a timely and accurate manner.   3. Performs glaze checks on incoming and outgoing product each period (four times daily) to provide scale operators with accurate weights, and determine the amount of glaze on the product.   4. Checks calibration of scales daily.   5. Performs teardowns of outgoing product, checking weights, counts and package seals for each period.   6. Notifies management immediately if incoming product fails to meet specifications for identity, size, freshness, etc.   7. Keeps daily quality reports on all products used, species, sources, lot numbers, glaze determinations and scale settings.   8. Ensures that employees follow company and governmental sanitation guidelines concerning personal hygiene and proper handling of product (i.e., hair nets, hand washing, etc.).   9. Ensures that proper sanitation practices are followed concerning pest control, disposal of wastes, storage of cleaning materials, etc., and watches for any potential safety hazards.   10. Follows all company safety policies and procedures.   11. Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required.



SKILLS: Must have knowledge of plant safety and sanitation regulations, product quality, fish species and grades.  Must also be familiar with the basic measurement of weights and temperatures.  Must be able to prioritize workload, work well under pressure, and deal with constant interruption.  Must have efficient work habits to monitor several production lines daily.  Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required. QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience.  Prefer AA or BS in Science. • Minimum two (2) year of work experience in a quality control capacity in a professional processing environment or in fisheries-related work where some fish identification is involved.
