Job Description GENERAL NATURE and SCOPE Under the direction of the Director, Research & Development, is responsible for operational support activities at the Metrex – Romulus location.  Position is responsible for activities related to stability, method validation, quality control, health and safety, engineering change orders, non-conforming reports and current product line support for the site. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Other duties may be assigned, in addition to those identified below. This position is responsible for providing technical expertise to assigned project teams. Formulates new and novel antimicrobial products Develop in-depth knowledge of new and existing products. Represents the research and development department at both internal team meetings and customer meetings relating to assigned projects that may be of diverse scope (including other technologies) Coordinates with other functional groups including regulatory, QC, operations, purchasing and marketing to ensure project requirements are met. Designs, and interprets experimental studies intended to provide supporting data or to resolve technical issues encountered during each project. Defines technical objectives and conveys them to other members of the project team. Conducts research using laboratory equipment including GC and HPLC. Delegates or executes technical activities, lab work etc. Familiar with FDA/ EPA and other regulatory guidelines including method and process validations and cGMP’s.  Resolves technical issues and drives the completion of investigations that affect the technical scope, makes recommendations for various options that would resolve the issue, including a preferred option. Works independently, supervised on an "as needed" basis, recognizes key issues likely to affect successful and/or timely completion.Provides instruction and guidance to other members of staff who are provided to assist with technical work When requested, provides support to quoting for new business by establishing a technical scope, and working with other interested parties to complete the process in the agreed timeframe. Proposes and implements recommendations to processes and procedures designed to increase efficiency, safety or quality. Supports the progress of projects through the technology transfer process by providing technical summaries at key stages during the project as requested. Understands revenue associated with each project phase.  Flexible with respect to project priorities and ensures that site and/or departmental business objectives are met.  Functions as a liaison between the R&D group and all other functional groups. Maintain proprietary formulations and develop new ones as needed.  Manage stability program. Maintain project timelines and action plans. Select and qualify chemicals or materials for cost savings.  Assist with the development of packaging systems as needed for existing and new products. Maintain R&D procedures and update to maintain compliance.  Assist manufacturing and contract manufacturers on identification and solution of manufacturing problems.  Work with quality assurance to identify potential sources of defects, failures and customer complaints.  Find replacement chemicals and alternate sources of defects and customers complaints.  Find replacements materials and alternate sources for continuity of supply and cost reductions.  Work with manufacturing, operations and/ or quality assurance on process/ design changes for quality improvement and/or cost reduction.  R&D representative on material related environmental, health, and safety issues.  Participate in internal and external audits as needed.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Biological or other science  At least 1-3 years of experience in a research & development environment and/or quality control in chemical and microbiological disciplines Knowledge of Quality Systems, GMP, GLP, Design control  Knowledge of ISO standards, various national Pharmacopoeias, and European Directives  Working knowledge of testing and procedures such as: ASTM, TAPPI, FINAT, ANSI  TO APPLY FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY, PLEASE CLICK ON THE FOLLOWING LINK: http://www3.recruitingcenter.net/clients/sybron/publicjobs/controller.cfm?jbaction=JobProfile&Job_Id=11102&esid=az  Contact Information Company:Sybron Dental Specialties
