This position works under consultative direction toward predetermined goals and objectives. Assignments can be self-initiated; however, assignments primarily arise through support to Corporate EHS Program Coordinators. The Specialist works individually, or with multi-discipline teams dedicated to ensuring that processes, permits, controls and procedures are in accordance with applicable regulations. The associate is responsible for design reviews for new construction, permitting or permit modification applications, or modification of existing processes to accommodate manufacturing or regulatory changes. Technical expertise is maintained within Safety and Industrial Hygiene for standards and regulations in all countries where Kohler Co. manufactures product. The associate would participate in research and development activities and problem-solving related to Safety and Industrial Hygiene. Provides leadership to less experienced engineers and technicians and may act as lead person or technical expert on medium to large projects.

Expert knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements is maintained through research of statutes and regulations, consultation with other members of the corporate EHS team, and operating unit and field personnel. The associate maintains expert knowledge on the scientific and technical aspects of the regulatory requirements related to Safety and Industrial Hygiene, and can be a key contributor on projects strategic to the success of the organization. This position is also responsible for the oversight of the EHS website and PC hardware and software coordination.

Travel Requirements
This position has responsibilities to corporate EHS Program Coordinators and to manufacturing facilities requiring expert Safety and Industrial Hygiene support. Domestic travel can reach 10% and international travel will typically not exceed 10%, for a total expected maximum travel requirement of 20%.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain EHS Intranet web pages. Coordinate all computer and telecommunication hardware and software support services. Develop, implement and monitor systems to make the preparation and submittal of routine compliance reports more efficient.

2. Provide technical support to corporate EHS Program Coordinators, addressing Safety and Industrial Hygiene issues for Kohler Co. operations. Provide technical direction to management and technical personnel in other functional units (production areas).

3. Maintain measures needed to ensure awareness and compliance of regulatory requirements and corporate objectives throughout corporate locations.

4. Assist with audits of Kohler Co. facilities for Safety and Industrial Hygiene regulatory compliance.

5. Share on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies when notified. Provide investigative support and technical guidance as necessary to abate emergency conditions, identify causes and initiate preventative measures. Maintains and ensures quality of the monthly safety report.

6. Interpret local, state and federal regulations as they apply to Safety and Industrial Hygiene. Maintain expert knowledge of existing regulations, and anticipate future regulatory requirements.

7. Perform Kohler Safety Management Systems (KSMS) evaluations as requested at Kohler Co. locations.

8. Develop corporate guidelines and standards. Provide training, training materials and guidance as required for Safety and Industrial Hygiene issues. Develop trainers at each facility.

9. Develop corporate metrics for the evaluation of Safety and Industrial Hygiene processes at the locations.

10. Develop and maintain a positive image for Kohler Co., with the public and with government regulatory agencies.

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires BS degree in engineering, or related Safety and Industrial Hygiene science from an ABET accredited program. The position requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience. Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills are essential. This position is action oriented requiring the incumbent to creatively plan and executes various EHS activities. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to function as a team leader, able to foster management and associate participation, have good interpersonal communication and computer skills. C.S.P. or ability to achieve certification is preferable.
