A report to the Director of Operations and Supply Chain Management, this position is responsible for planning and procurement of inventory, project materials and services. Using ISO, QSR procedures and relevant experience, acquire quality products, at a reasonable cost and with on-time delivery, while managing inventory levels in accordance with company objectives.

 

Job FunctionsUsing Master Schedule and MRP outputs, plan materials and sub-contract services.Plan for reorder point and Kanban requirements.Manage inventory turns and planned levels for assigned components per company objectives. Approves specifications and BOM’s, including costing and coding parts in the ERP system.Produce supplier and inventory performance and planning reports.Identify, control and disposition slow-moving and obsolete materials. Coordinate and assist in cycle counting for sub-contract items and in-house items.Procure senior level materials, assemblies, and equipment including Kanban and MRO items. Using approved requisitions and ERP planning outputs, review and approve purchases.Monitor PPV, on-time delivery and other performance metrics for suppliers.Coordinate and negotiate major contracts in a team atmosphere.

· Coordinate purchasing activities with engineering for new product introductions. Be a team member for NPI teams. Pre-plan and buy materials for these NPI teams as required. Works with suppliers to assure smooth transitions into production.MRB member.  Suggest improvements. Help to solve supplier problems.

· Contributing member of the ERP (Great Plains) Manufacturing / MRP implementation team.

 

Requirements / Skills

· 5 years of senior buyer / planner experience at a technical company.

· AA plus 7 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing organization, or BA plus 5 years of business experience.

· Capable of reading and understanding drawings, and specifications for optical, electronic and fabricated components (etc.).

· Demonstrated multi-year experience working with contract manufacturers.

· Demonstrated ability in procuring optical components and assemblies, electronic components and assemblies and similar technical components.

· Basic computer keyboarding and data interface skills required.  Knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing required. Reporting experience required.

· At least 6 years experience with MRP or ERP systems required. Implementation experiences a PLUS. Great Plains Experience a PLUS.
