SENIOR DATA NETWORK ENGINEER
The Senior Data Network Engineer's responsibility and overall purpose is to ensure the life, functionality and growth of the Guilford multi-service data network, as well as play a leadership role in the design and implementation of network practices and services.
The SDNE will be involved with the Engineering/Planning functions of a traditional data network group, but will also take part in, and be expected to lead several initiatives in the converged voice-data world. The candidate will interface with various business groups and determine if and when the company can exploit such technologies. The candidate will also oversee eventual pilots and deployments that result from such analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Research and analyze emerging network technologies and their applicability at Guilford
Lead projects commensurate with senior level (Server upgrades, WAN deployment)
Determine evolving end-user needs on an ongoing basis and determine solutions that meet those requirements
Set Network design and configuration standards including, but not limited to, routing, switching, QOS.
Design, implement and maintain IP (private and public), ATM/FR, MPLS, Wireless (802.11a,b,g,n), VoIP, Video/IP, Metro Ethernet and VPN's (L2/3) networks;
Maintain, monitor and grow networks capacities consisting of DS1 & greater
Provide third level support in troubleshooting all network components including servers, routers, switches, WAP, etc…
Oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of any new network product/service;
Develop, document, implement and maintain processes and procedures related to service delivery.
Analyze current WAN bandwidth usage and forecasting future requirements.
Interface with business units and other IT groups to understand their requirements.
Participate in defining hardware for all locations incl. domestic and international offices
Mentor the junior members of the network group.
EXPERIENCE WITH:
IPv4 networks, routing and switching, BGP, OSPF, SNMP, MPLS, QoS, VoIP, MCGP/SIP, Multicast; MLPPP, Metro Ethernet, Wireless networking
Cisco Routing and Switching Equipment
VoIP principles (SIP/MGCP), Cisco Call Manager/Call Manager Express, IP Trunking
Network security audit, DOS prevention and intervention, VPN;
Network Design, audit and management tools (Visio, CiscoWorks).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience in a Manufacturing or similar change-management process environment;
Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving abilities;
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS
BA/BS in related field with 5 years experience; Assoc. in related field with 7-10 years experience; Active Cisco associate certification desired (CCDA/NA)
Active Cisco specialist certification desired (CWLAN, CIPC Specialist)
