Position Overview

As a senior firmware developer you will be responsible for the planning and development of microprocessor code in energy delivery and storage systems developed by A123 Systems.  These systems require microprocessor intelligence to manage and monitor A123 System’s revolutionary new Lithium Ion battery cells, sub-modules and systems, and communicate to host systems, such as motor vehicle controllers via CAN, RS485, ARINC and other protocols. 

 

Primary responsibilitiesInteract with customers, product management, hardware development engineers and test engineers to develop the firmware and hardware for energy storage products.  Help select hardware and software architectures to best support required near-term and long term product features.Plan and compose firmware code in using both C and Assembly language. Work with hardware and test engineers to facilitate products through design verification and validation.Assist in the development and evolution of A123 standard configuration management and code development practices to conform to best industry practices and design standards as well as customer specific requirements.

 

Specific Skills/AbilitiesDemonstrated expertise in real-time embedded firmware development -- embedded C and assembly language is required. Familiarity with general circuit design and reading circuit schematics required Experience in writing code for I2C bus, SPI, CAN, RS232, and/or RS485 is preferredExperience with Microchip PIC and dsPIC processors is preferred.Hardware design – experience with battery and power management is preferred. Experience in taking products from concept to market is required. Good communication skills, both oral and written is expected

 

Education/Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical field is required.

· 8+ years experience in embedded software is required
