Senior Metallurgical/Materials Science Engineer
Westinghouse Electric Company, Nuclear Fuel Division, Western Zirconium Plant, is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with Materials or Metallurgical background for their manufacturing facility located in Ogden, Utah.The purpose of this position is to assume engineering responsibilities for a major manufacturing activity. Develop and maintain cost effective manufacturing, equipment, and regulatory programs or procedures with minimal direction. Position responsibilities include:* Provide direct engineering support to operations, collect and analyze data, define quality levels, failure causes, analyze drawing, create specifications, and determine quality requirements.* Provide project management leadership role to effectively implement department defined projects concerning safety, quality, production, cost, etc.* Develop new and improved procedures/processes, estimate manufacturing cost, create project documentation, prepare sketches and monitor drawing creation, evaluate manpower, equipment, systems needed to accomplish objectives. * Suggest sources of manufacture and develop new sources in coordination with purchasing.* Apply engineering sciences such as lean manufacturing, six-sigma, and statistical process analysis to continuously improve efficiency of manufacturing processes. * Analyze and recommend technological innovations in material, machinery, manufacturing, and chemical processing to solve manufacturing problems. * Prepare technical papers and make formal presentations to customers and management.Qualified candidates must have: * A bachelors degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical engineering* Typically, 2-6 or more years of professional experience* Rolling mill or deformation processing of metals experience* Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles, practices and procedures to complete assignments.* Works with minimal supervision, apply scientific and engineering principles, ability to plan, follow through, exercise judgment, and remain flexible. * Good presentation skills to influence desired outcome.* Good communication skills and the ability to gain cooperation while leading teams.* Provide written and oral communication to support the organizations goals to customers, regulators and executive management.* Listening skills, as well as ability to articulate explanations.
