Position Description:

Saint-Gobain Grains & Powders provides high quality abrasive materials to manufacturers throughout the world. Products offered include aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, zirconia, thermal spray powders, diamond powders, compounds and slurries, alumina slurries, as well as many other products. Our products are used to manufacture grinding wheels, sandpaper, refractory bricks, and are used in the glass & electronics industries.

Qualifications:

Develops new cBN and diamond materials for use in grinding and surface finishing applications. Works intimately with the product manager to define new applications for current technologies, and developing new or improved technologies to meet demands of new applications. Accountable to plant manager for ensuring robust processes for manufacturing differentiated product offerings. The incumbent is accountable to manage projects to ensure on- time, in-budget completion that achieves expected end results.The incumbent will use a broad range of scientific principles to ensure highest quality technical output, as well as possess professional interpersonal skills necessary in establishing and maintaining relationships with customers and suppliers.Principal End Results:? Defines, directs and implements project objectives and scope based on the targeted business opportunity.? Develops project plans and priorities to meet desired end results and will have indirect supervisory responsibility for people assigned to assist the implementation.? Will use their experience and technical knowledge to design and implement unique solutions to include the development of new or alternate processes to a level where they are ready for full transfer to manufacturing.? Resolves complex technical issues in multiple engineering disciplines to meet the project goals.? Works & communicates effectively with customers to understand & help solve their problems. Background/Skills:Preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in superabrasive materials synthesis, modification, and processing. The candidate must be hands-on and be able to work independently in a plant environment with a variety of production and technical staff. The incumbent must be well organized, and have the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff and customers in both formal and informal settings. He/she must be able to manage multiple projects and deliver results within defined timelines.The incumbent is expected to travel 25-50% of the time, both domestic & internationally.The incumbent will be required to work in our manufacturing operations and fully abide by all company health, safety and environmental policies, including the wearing of personal protective equipment, as needed, in various areas.
