Senior Ultrasonic Inspection Technician

H.C. Starck Inc., a worldwide leader in refractory metals and metal powders, including tantalum, niobium, molybdenum and tungsten, fabricated products and specialty chemicals. The company provides technically advanced materials to a wide variety of industries, including electronic, semiconductor, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical, aerospace, and steel. Materials and products are developed, processed and manufactured at both US and international facilities; Germany, England, Japan, Thailand, and Canada.

A challenging opportunity exists for a Senior Ultrasonic Inspection Technician at the headquarters of H.C. Starck Inc. in our Newton, Massachusetts plant.  The incumbent MUST be certified in ASNT TC-1A Level II ultrasonic test method.  The primary responsibility of this position will be the ultrasonic inspection of H.C. Starck’s (Newton, MA) tantalum tubing and tantalum disc product lines.  Secondary responsibilities include final inspection (dimensional, visual, etc.) and metallurgical laboratory testing (grains size, tensile testing, etc.) of all products, capacitor grade wire inspection and certification of all product types.

Principle Activities/Duties:

· Set-up, calibrate, and operate the tubing ultrasonic test station.  This is a water immersion unit that is capable of inspecting a wide variety of tubing diameters and wall thicknesses.  Strict adherence to department procedures (including use of log sheets, inspection forms, and tubing stamp control) is required.

· Ultrasonic standards: this individual will maintain all the tube standards necessary for each job.  This means he / she will track all the tubes nominal sizes to determine when a new standard will be manufactured and calibrated.  In order to keep the standards valid this individual needs to write a detailed purchase order with all the technical requirements clearly stated.  Also this individual is responsible to maintain the standards calibration control list.

· Unit Calibration: this individual is responsible to coordinate an annual calibration program with calibration sub-contractors.

· Customer acceptance: this individual will test every product using an internal HCST specification; an internal work instruction for the testing devices; and a customer’s specifications (when necessary).  All accepted products must meet or exceed the minimum customer requirements.  Also, this individual will be responsible to reject any product that fails to meet the minimum specification requirements.  For rejected, nonconforming product, he/she will be responsible to generate a nonconforming material report (NCMR).

· Ultrasonic Testing Technical Resource: this individual will be the technical resource for the Newton ultrasonic tubing test program.  This will require representing internal practices with our internal and external customers.

· Worldwide TUV 3.2 program: this individual will represent the Newton ultrasonic tubing test program for our TUV registrar and for our customers purchasing tubes to TUV European pressure vessel standards.

· R&D support: This individual will play a lead role on any experimental ultrasonic trials.

Know How:

· High School diploma or GED with 7 years related experience, or an Associates degree in a technical field with 5 years related experience, or a BS degree in a technical field with 3 years related experience.

· Must have a working knowledge of SPC, SAP, Microsoft Access, Word, & Excel.

· ASNT TC-1A Level II ultrasonic certification is required

H.C. Starck offers exceptional opportunities for achievement and advancement, along with highly competitive compensation.  We also offer excellent benefits, including company medical and dental contribution, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, health club reimbursement, bonus program participation and training programs.

Qualified candidates should send their resumes to: Human Resources, H.C. Starck Inc.

45 Industrial Place, Newton, MA 02461-1951, Fax: (617) 630-4888, E-mail: jobs@hcstarck.com .  We’re dedicated to a diverse workplace M/F/D/V.
