Sr. Ceramic Engineer

Scope of Position:
- Analyzes, researches and tests materials and their related behavior and application to a production environment
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Define rheology testing to establish baseline rheology at all locations
- Maintain current rheology SOP’s in CPE Metrology lab
- Build library and database of rheology results
- Use rheology tools to troubleshoot production problems, especially shifts in extrusion behavior
- Apply rheology tools to die design issues and developments
- Be the interface and collaborate with the CET Development and Research affiliates to transfer new rheological tests
Projects Involved with:
- Develop a rheology database of our ceramic materials and the impact that it has on our forming process
Role Within Group:
- Work independently on rheology studies to develop fundamental understandings
- Support department projects that need rheological inputs
- Apply the rheology learnings to improve our process and product
- Work with the manufacturing plants to understand and improve the impact of rheology on the process
Travel Requirements:
- Some international travel
- Both domestic and international travel will be approximately
Required Skills:
- Rheology Experience
- Background in Ceramics
- Process Engineering basics (Basics of Manufacturing, some statistical training, etc.)
Desired Skills:
- Experience in Project Management
- Design of experiments
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work in a field that is still relatively new with a very complex material behavior. This means ability to deal with the ambiguity of initially not knowing how to solve complex and mysterious material based forming problems.
- Technical curiosity – desire to know how do things work.
- Ability to work independently
- Confidence to speak up and share ideas in challenging team oriented problem solving environment
Education and Experience:
- B.S. / M.S. Mechanical, Ceramic or Chemical Engineer
