Sr Hardware Development Engineer
Description:In accordance with sound and accepted engineering principles designs, implements and tests hardware and associated firmware for the development of new permanent magnet servo motor products for the motion control market. Performs specialized technical functions required to conduct analysis, design, cost quotations, test plans and reports, and production documentation, for motor products, components, and accessories. The Motor Product Development Engineer participates in large technical development programs as well as leads continuing engineering efforts on existing products and motor derivative design efforts. Shows initiative and ownership for the complete product development effort. Works independently and may technically direct lower-level designers and technicians. There are no direct or indirect reports, and fiscal responsibility is defined with respect to the PAR for the assigned projects.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:nctional 1. Assist marketing with the development of product requirements, feasibility and proof-of-concept studies, and/or architectural or behavioral simulations to assess performance and customer acceptability;2. Assist Project Manager with planning, scheduling and organization of major hardware product development activities, deliverables and milestones, manpower requirements and projected development expenses for PAR and ROI, using input and skills of team members and any other appropriate experts;3. Manage and participate in laboratory testing of new motor products using Rockwell Automation motion control systems, and insuring products are compliant with international standards;4. Responsible for periodic design reviews to help ensure meeting performance, reliability and quality objectives, including agency certifications, EMC and environmental and safety compliance, DFT (Design for Test) and DFM (Design for Manufacturability);5. Responsible for initial debug and product verification as needed to support project objectives, and in accordance with Rockwell Automation ISO and TQMS policies and procedures;6. Create complete design documentation and cost information;7. Understand and apply design practices that are consistent with agency certifications, EMC and environmental and safety requirements;8. Responsible for release to manufacturing in alignment with cost, quality, performance and AFS targets established by the project team;9. Handle and control confidential information of both Rockwell Automation and business partners according to established guidelines.Qualifications:EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Masters Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering with strong mechanical background, or Masters Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering with strong electrical background required. Knowledge of Chemical / Materials Engineering considered a plus.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Minimum 8 years of experience in the development of servo motor products is a requirement. Knowledge and experience in permanent magnet servo motor design, motor feedback devices, motion control products and applications, ProE and SAP. Proven performance in demanding technical tasks, experienced in project management techniques. Familiarity with Rockwell Automation controllers and/or network communications products and media required.
