COMPANY

The Wornick Company is a progressive, growing organization and a pioneer in the food processing/packaging industry. We are the leading supplier of sustenance food and beverage products for austere environments with over $200 million in sales annually. We are looking for a Sr. Product Developer.

 

LOCATION

This position is located at our Blue Ash corporate facility.

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Product Development Manager/Corporate Chef.

 

SUMMARY

Utilizes food science and culinary skills to develop and implement new products, while maintaining an ongoing focus to drive continuous improvement. Our Sr. Product Developer will create products from ideation stage to test kitchen product and follow it all the way through production, including troubleshooting obstacles along the way.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but management may ad other duties at its discretion.

 Interacts and develops relationships with R&D, Operations, Manufacturing and Engineering during development of new items.Ideate and implement new products and technologies.Integrate new and/or existing technology with Company operations.Work with Thermal Processing personnel to optimize product quality.Possess working knowledge of product standards and raw material usage levels set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations.Lead technical label development and nutritional claims including ingredient statements and nutrition panel.Must be able to develop/adhere to multiple timelines.Must possess technical knowledge to be able to work with outside vendors, contractors and customers.Ability to read external technical documents and accurately translate them into company recognized documents.Possess strong presentation skills as well as technical knowledge in order to demonstrate Wornick’s capabilities to suppliers and potential customers.Ability to research new products and technical industry trends.Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in science or culinary field required.Must have a minimum of five years industry experience as a product developer, food scientist, culinologist or related job.Basic computer knowledge.Must be able to create new products in a lab setting, and convert the formulation to deliver maximum quality from the Production floor.Must be able to lead and work on projects with minor management influence and demonstrate appropriate negotiation ability to achieve the project goals.Must be able to participate in multi-department project teams. Must also be able to develop and meet structured project timelines (utilizing MS Project). Must be able to successfully communicate and interact with internal production and QA personnel. Must be able to successfully communicate and interact with external suppliers and industrial technology leaders.Retort knowledge and culinary arts background a plus.
