Stitcher Operator

1.  Demonstrate knowledge and ability to:

·  Understand job Prep, Press, Saddle Stitcher related specifications.

·  Interact with scheduling and supervisor to facilitate the daily schedule.

·  Read and understand the job ticket and work order.

·  Understand customer quality requirements and The D.B. Hess Co. quality specifications.

·  Understand the proofs in checking Saddle Stitcher attributes.

2.  Demonstrate the ability to make ready the saddle stitcher including:

·  Pocket guide set-up and adjustment.

·  Caliper or miss/double detector setup (caliper setting).

·  Air controls adjustment.

·  Install and set up stitching heads.

·  Install new wire.

·  Set trimmer knives.

·  Set and adjust kick ejector mechanism (caliper setting).

·  Set up and operate ink-jet addressing equipment, if applicable.

·  Download digital mail files from the computer network, if applicable.

3.  Demonstrate compliance with saddle stitcher safety procedures.

4.  Demonstrate the ability to operate the saddle stitcher at production speeds including:

·  Operating run and jog controls.

·  Setting stitcher speeds.

·  Setting conveyor speed and position.

·  Pocket loading and materials handling/jogging.

5.  Demonstrate skills in inspecting product for attributes including:

·  Cover square ness.

·  Accurate trim

·  Signatures properly collated.

·  Cover and text printing attributes.

·  Excessive marking.

·  Cover color register.

·  Presence of print flaws (hickeys, scumming).

 

6.  Demonstrate understanding of saddle stitch production time requirements and company standards.

7.  Demonstrate proper materials staging before, during, and after operation.

8.  Demonstrate understanding of SPC requirements of saddle stitcher functions.

9.  Demonstrate data collection and reporting to ensure process capability of Saddle Stitcher attributes.

10.  Demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the use of:

·  Job Ticket.

·  Daily Production Schedule.

·  Saddle Stitcher Attribute Inspection Reports.

·  Non-conforming Material Reports.

·  Quality Manual.

·  Standard operating Procedures.

11.  Demonstrate the ability to read a ruler in both inches and metric and pass a test in both.

 

 The ability to speak, read, and write the English language.

 

Mathematics skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions.
