JOB DESCRIPTION:The principal objectives of the position are to: 1. Provide direct supervision of employees and production work in the Bonded Abrasives shipping, receiving & traffic areas, in order to meet safety, service, quality, and cost objectives of the production area. The successful incumbent accomplishes this objective through:· Setting direction and leading the team to a high level of performance· Mobilizing individual commitment and managing work flow· Implementing continuous improvement initiatives - 5S, Lean Manufacturing· Building organizational capability· Demonstrating person character· Interfacing with Customer Service as neededDevelop and lead shipping and logistics projects to improve Bonded operational metrics. Project examples might include: improving synergies with the DC's, optimizing WOG shipments, exploring options within the Plant's control to reduce shipping cost, optimizing plant trucking routes, reducing issues with products that are damaged in transit, applying lean concepts to shipping to reduce waste.Provide proactive operations analyses to:· Optimize Shipping Department results, including root cause analyses· Identify order dating issues, including root cause analyses· Aid Supervisors with exception reports· Create "pull" into shipping from new Lean Cells in Bonded by developing enhanced tools to help Bonded reduce lead-times and WIPIncumbent must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of processes, logistics, lean manufacturing concepts and project management. The individual must be resourceful in developing solutions to spontaneous and routine technical/systems problems. For immediate team members, s/he must maintain high morale and positive attitude, good communication, interpersonal skills and promote employee development through training and involvement.
