Supv. Records Examiner (Biologist)

There are four of these positions available at the FBI Lab in Quantico, VA.

A Supervisory Records Examiner/Analyst (Biologist) may execute any of the following duties:
Provide Clerical, Data Analyst, and Records Examiner/Analyst review
Directs and supervises the work data analysis and other contractor staff, particularly on major support efforts, such as large research projects or major office support
Monitors work and reports on progress; responsible for ensuring that work meets contract and government requirements and is delivered on time
Troubleshoots and performs quality control spot-checks. Must be able to formulate administrative and technical procedures for getting the work done
Performs complex technical and factual research
Designs and develops systems and procedures for tracking, controlling, and managing case files, exhibits, and other case specific materials
Coordinates with other Contractor support components in order to accomplish work.
Reports to a Director, Manager or Operations Supervisor; may also have significant contact with ACOTR, QAE, trial attorneys and his/her staff, client agency staff, and opposing counsel

This person will also assist Forensic Examiners in performing highly technical examinations and analysis of items of original and irreplaceable physical evidence. Assists Forensics Examiners in the DNA analysis of physical evidence. Adhering to prescribed work priorities, plans order of work and sequence of various steps involved in the DNA analytical process which includes conducting the actual DNA analysis beginning with the extraction process and continuing through the polymerase chain reaction on evidentiary material on physical evidence. Due to the kind and condition of evidence, kinds of body fluid stains and/or human tissue suspected to be present, and the need to preserve evidence for auxiliary examiners, adapts or modifies techniques and procedures to obtain specimens from items of evidence. Evidence consists of clothing, weapons, tissue specimens, liquid body fluid, skeletal remains, and/or human tissue samples, and other materials made of wood, metal, plastic, glass, paper, fabric, or any combination thereof which have been submitted in connection with violent and/or missing persons crimes. Prepares detailed documentation containing test results that examiners incorporate with other analyses into a final report. Other duties include quality control/quality assurance matters, laboratory safety, and evaluation and validation studies of new procedures.

The work will be performed in a laboratory. Candidates will be required to work with potentially infectious blood samples (HIV, Hepatitis, etc.). Candiates will be required to complete a Bloodborne Pathogens Training Program before officially starting duties. It is strongly recommended that the candidate undergo the Hepatitis B Vaccine series.A Supervisory Records Examiner/Analyst must meet the following qualifications:

Professional work in forensic serology, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology perfomed in a laboratory setting, which includes the sucessful analysis of a range of DNA samples. For some of these positons, experience working in a high throughput laboratory setting is preferred and experience working with robotic/automation systems is desired. For some of these positions, experience in the processing of skeletal remains is preferred.

First consideration will be given to candidates with a successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's (or higher) degree in a biological science, chemistry, or forensic science related area
At least three years of related experience
Supervisory experience preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge of automated research tools
Should have hands-on familiarity with variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and telecommunications
