Systems Engineer

Mentor software developers in the use of proper design and coding techniques, work with other systems engineers to define high level system architectures for Trane’s HVAC controls, and ensure development of high quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations through the use of Critical Parameter Management (CPM)* Represent development teams in front of program managers and executive leadership * Communicate technical needs, opportunities, constraints & trade offs to program managers and executive leadership * Provide design leadership, key technical input and manage tradeoffs as a program/project technical leader * Develop system level architectures for families of HVAC products * Define system level technical requirements and flow them down to development projects * Perform system and project risk assessments * Responsible for system level CPM scorecards, system level transfer functions and flow down to subsystems and/or product development teams * Mentor/lead project team members in use of CPM * Design key cross-product software components and component interfaces * Create and facilitate the use of SW design and coding standards to support system level development. Train and mentor developers in the use of these standards * Facilitate / lead reuse of SW design and implementation within and across platforms * Evaluate competitive products / systems * Be aware of / participate in standards organizations * Lead/participate in design and code reviews * Ability to meet short- and long-term deadlines. * Effectively meet the needs of internal and external customers. * Ability to work regularly and dependably. * Ability to function in a team environment. * Demonstrate ability to cope with stress and maintain a pleasant and cooperative temperament with internal and external customers. * Demonstrate ability to perform mental tasks such as making decisions, learning, thinking rationally and exercising good judgment. * Other duties as assigned. * Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally, including the telephone. Experience as lead design engineer or architect for products comprised of both embedded & desktop or web based SW * Solid understanding of PCB board support packages and interrupt service routines * Demonstrated leadership and teaming skills * Excellent written and verbal communications skills * Experience using Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and other agile practices * Technical skills:C++, C#, XML, HTML, ASP.Net, Java, JSF, Javascript, MS .Net Framework, excellent understanding of object oriented and component based product development Additional Beneficial Knowledge and Skills * Agile software development practices * Experience writing device drivers, especially USB drivers * Six Sigma certification and ability to use tools * Experience working with and leading outsource partners * Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline * 8+ years software design and development experience including * 3+ years embedded development experience * 3+ years internet development (client side & server side) on Java and .net platforms * 3+ years of desktop development experience on Microsoft .net platforms * 3+ years of technical team leadership skills * 5+ years developing commercially available hardware and software productsFor quick consideration apply here
