TECHNICAL MANAGER
SUMMARY
Develops and implements production, processing and/or packaging methods, equipment and controls to meet production and quality standards in the most cost efficient manner.
Leads key segments of large scale projects and initiatives, having a significant impact on the business. Demonstrates mastery in one or more technical disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Package, and/or Automation Engineering) and processes (e.g. Distillation, Filtration, Separation, Corrugated, Labels, and/or Closures). Influences and advises management within the Engineering function.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Participates and leads in department and interdepartmental planning and management teams and works cross- functionally to improve processes and reduce costs across the organization.
• Analyzes complex process and packaging systems and business requirements to determine feasibility of design.
• Manages Contract Packaging projects involving domestic wine. Acts as project lead for successful implementation with new contract packaging suppliers.
• Prepares project-phase plans and implementation schedules, directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget, and evaluates results.
• Monitors assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards. Monitors supplier operations to drive quality improvements. Partners with Suppliers to drive cost savings initiatives.
• Provides technical leadership and/or business expertise to subordinates and peers on complex projects by taking action to direct the analysis of project issues and evaluating and recommending appropriate engineering solutions. Acts as Project Sponsor for projects progressing through the PMQ process.
• Initiates, writes, and seeks agreement to policies, standards, and procedures that ensure optimal use of the department’s strategy. Creates Process and Value-Stream maps to improve internal and external processes.
• Uses financial analysis to evaluate project options and process changes. Makes recommendations to Management based on financial impact to the business.
• Recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization and related matters.
• Reviews and defines testing and training documentation for the use of new or modified equipment, operating systems or product changes.
• Acts as a liaison with customers, other departments, divisions, suppliers, and organizations to insure functional specifications are met.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.
• Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Mentors project team members and may assist with the review and evaluation of personnel.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering or related technical field from four-year college or university, plus 8 or more years of experience, MBA/Master's degree preferred; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Skills
• Must possess and apply mastery in one or more technical disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Automation or Package Engineering) and mastery in one or more process (e.g. distillation, filtration, separation, corrugated, labels, closures) to the completion of significant assignments, operating with considerable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management and/or boards of directors.
• Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as statistical analysis, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to work with all levels and functions within the Company.
• Must possess and apply comprehensive knowledge in this area of specialization to the completion of significant assignments, operating with considerable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.
