POSITION SUMMARY The Tool and Diemaker I performs highly diversified work of an intricate and extremely complex nature. Works independently with minimum supervision and within time estimates determined by management.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Selects cutting tools, holding fixtures, machine feeds and speeds, collets and lubricants and gear ratios for all kinds of metals and pieces to be worked. Diagnoses, repairs and builds all types of tools and dies and performs difficult machining operations using tool room machines, employing all necessary machine attachments to make replacement parts, tools and dies. Works from extremely complicated blueprints, drawings, sketches and oral directions to create and produce intricate progressive and compound dies and tools, fixtures, jigs, models and parts etc. Performs very difficult development work. Grinds cutting tools as required. Performs precision grinding of all types of metals including carbide. Sets up and operates milling machines, lathes, jig grinders and all other tool room machinery. Works consistently to extremely close accuracy and tolerances of .00005 " or less when required. Heat-treats tools and/or parts Lifts machined parts manually or using hoists, and positions parts on surface plate or worktable, using devises such as V-blocks and angle plates. Uses shop mathematics, handbook formulas and a wide variety of precision measuring instruments including scribes, punches, indicators, micrometers, verniers, calipers, gauges comparators, job blocks and other such measuring equipment. Maintains related records, performs associated handling duties and maintains work areas in a neat and orderly conditions Assists other Tool and Diemakers in resolving technical problems. May lead the work of several Tool and Diemakers of the same or lesser labor grade or other workers as necessary.JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSPhysical Demands: This employee is required to: stand, walk, push, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert 10 pounds of force constantly to move objectsTraining and Experience: The Tool and Diemaker I should have the equivalent of a high school diploma plus four years of formal trades training or apprenticeship plus 3-4 years experience in the maintenance, repair and construction of progressive, and compound dies, tools, jigs, fixtures etc. Must have a thorough knowledge of machine tool construction and operations and the use of tools, machine shop practices, and the working qualities of materials.Licenses Required: No formal license is required but must have completed a certified apprenticeship program or its equivalent.Visual Acuity: Requires ability to concentrate visual and mental attention to study drawings, plan and layout work, diagnose problems, read dials and gauges, blueprints and precision measuring instruments used to inspect parts and make corrections to tools, remedy troubles.Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.Working Conditions: the employee is subject to: high noise levels from operating machines physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts breathing fumes, dust and mist skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid Please send resumes to: Lori Hersh Synerfac Technical Staffing Ph: (732) 271-9333 Fax: (732) 271-9110 E-mail: lhersh@synerfac.com
