Waste Water Treatment Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Merix Corporation, a $400 million global manufacturer of high-technology circuit boards, seeks Wastewater Treatment Technician to support the San Jose Merix facility. This role will work directly with our environmental and operations teams performing tasks/assignments related to the treatment and processing of waste materials generated in the fabrication of printed circuit boards.  Responsible for following all rules applicable to wastewater treatment and packaging, labeling and shipment of materials.

 

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

 

Operates industrial wastewater treatment system.  Operates equipment in accordance with internal procedures to maintain compliance with legal requirements.  Monitors performance of processes and equipment.  Identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective actions as needed, including performing minor repairs and adjusting operational parameters. Collects and analyzes water samples.  Related duties include; waste management, handling, and shipping; forklift operation; chemical maintenance; recordkeeping; equipment and systems preventative maintenance. Reports to a supervisor or manager.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

 

1) Knowledge Skills:

· Two or more years previous experience as a Wastewater Treatment Operator, or equivalent.  Able to perform analytical testing (pH, specific ion and colorimeter) of solutions.

· Trouble-shooting of problems associated with water and material transfer techniques.  Maintenance skills are a plus.

· High school math and English and chemistry, or equivalent.  Good reading and writing skills.

· Two or more years experience handling chemicals.

· Basic computer skills.

· Forklift operation.

· Hazardous Waste and DOT training.

3) Physical Skills:

· Hand/foot and eye coordination required.

· Requires color and depth perception.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT CONSIDERATIONS

 

Chemically intensive work environment.  Works outside in all types of weather.

Required to wear protective equipment, such as:  boots, gloves, goggles, respirator, chemical suit.  Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 50 pounds.  Occasional overtime required.
