Steel Manager
Has overall responsibility and coordinates activities of the Steel and Welding Craft.
I. SAFETY
Leader and Initiator in Safety. Ensures team compliance with all company & OSHA regulated safety
requirements/standards.
ll. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Lead and manage through daily application of ORA (Ownership-Responsibility-Accountability) Principles and
safe, quality, production.
• Responsible for providing quantity and quality of workers requested by Project Managers.
• Train assigned Lederman in cost control, safety, job skills, and quality, scheduling and LEAN.
• Directs all phases of steel industrial fabrication, joining, and erection to include planning, organizing, scheduling,
assembly, erection and fabrication; monitors the performance of assigned Lederman at project and company
scheduled meetings.
• Continuous monitoring of tasks performance by reporting Estimate to Complete.
• Oversees the execution of production schedules to ensure product data such as types, quantities, and
specifications of materials and scheduled delivery dates are in order.
• Ensures adequate resources are available to all projects to be successful.
• Plans, prepares and schedules production operations, schedules, progress reports and teams with Project
Managers and Project Coordinators, Superintendents and other craft activities to ensure production and quality of
work performed meets specifications, cost, and schedule.
• Identify and resolves issues in the area of craft performance, production schedules, manning projections, budget
requirements, etc.
• Ensure all machinery and equipment is inspected and maintained to design operational performance and
optimum utilization.
• Champions LEAN, 5S and Value Stream Mapping initiatives. Monitors all spaces and maintains 5S grades and
documentation is timely and accurate. Foster a climate that generates continuous improvement in working
conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of steel department using the tools of Value Stream
Mapping, LEAN, and 5S.
• Maintain appropriate interface and relations with customers, paying detailed attention to the contract and
specifications.
• Develop and improve Critical Process Metrics
• Must have passport and be willing and able to travel
lll. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible and accountable for the performance of craft foremen, leadermen, technicians, and mechanics for quality,
cost, scheduling, and safety.
Enforce worker compliance with appropriate procedures in production, accuracy control, safety, cost, environmental
protection and quality assurance.
Administer discipline in a fair manner in consultation with Human Resources to insure equitable action to correct
employee behavior and performance deficiencies.
Manage in a manner to promote a safe yard and positive employee attitude.
Promote and advocate company policy.

lV. QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements
listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
V. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree with proven problem solving and decision-making skills; MBA preferred, Weld/Fabrication Technology,
structural;
Minimum 10 years structural shipyard experience as a supervisor over fabrication and/or repair;
Thorough knowledge of ABS Classification guidelines, USCG, SOLAS and AWS requirements;
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook Project) knowledge is preferred;
Must be flexible as to shift changes

and may provide guidance to others. Determine appropriate actions, methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for

Communication: Ability to speak effectively before others in and outside the organization. Effectively communicate and
respond to questions from managers, employees, clients, customers-both internal and external, and the general public.
Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, production schedules, budgets, manning
requirements, engineering documents, technical procedures, government regulations, common manuals and journals. Be
able to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Vll. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability
to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test and reliability and validity,
analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to apply high-level
budgeting/accounting skills to execute contract ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in schematic, blueprint, mathematical, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

X. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision,
