Tax Accountant

 

Purpose

§ To calculate and report the companies tax position to local authorities, including maintaining tax records and preparing tax returns, schedules and reports in compliance with local regulations and Internal Quality System Standards.

§ To secure compliance with local regulations on all tax and transfer price related issues

§ Cooperate with corporate tax department in Oslo to ensure optimization and efficient local and group tax positions

§ Communicate with various tax offices on Federal, State & local level

§ Support Regional Finance Director on ad hoc issues

 

The position reports to the Finance Director (FD). Further, the Tax Accountant needs to work closely with other departments including but not limited to the Customer Service Center, Liner/Logistics, Port Operations & Accounting

 



Main responsibilities

Responsible for the company’s tax compliance and filingBusiness Licenses / Franchise Fees / Property tax (Real & Personal).US Franchise Tax & Sales/Use Tax US State & Federal filings in cooperation wit external tax consultantsVAT Filing CanadaCanada Tax filings in cooperation with external tax consultantsPuerto Rico Tax filingCFC Tax filingsBarber Ship Management Tax filing in cooperation wit external tax consultantsResponsible for all tax related accounts in the financial statementsWork with FD on transfer pricing issues.Responsible for filing the annual Advanced Pricing Agreement with the IRS.Be proactive and work with FD & Corporate Tax department on Tax planning & transfer pricing issues in general.Together with FD & HR/OD ensuring that legal structures are in compliance with corporate guidelines and local requirementsWork with external tax consultants on a regular basis and to ensure timely and accurate filing as well as maintaining consultancy & tax preparation agreements.Work with various tax offices on Federal, State and local level including tax audits when applicable.Ad hoc analysis, projects, and reports as determined from time to time. E.g. assisting on tax issues in mergers and acquisitions. Filing of various reports to Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and other government departments



Accountabilities

·  Responsible for timely external Federal, State & local tax reporting, annual internal tax reporting and ensuring that owed tax is paid timely.

RequirementsBachelor’s DegreeMinimum of 2 years relevant experience in a similar positionAbility to work on own initiative and in a teamGood command of written and spoken English languageSystematic and accurate natureComputer literateExperience with tax reporting softwareResearch and interpretation skills/interest of local regulatory compliance issues
