DESIGNER - MEDICAL DEVICE

 

 Designer-Medical Device

 

Position Description:

This designer position involves product and process design work for disposable medical devices. The designer will work in product design, laying out concepts for new products, helping with solid modeling of parts and creating sub assembly and full assembly models of the product as well as generating 2 D prints and documenting specifications. The designer will assist in prototyping and testing the design including sourcing of materials for the initial models and designing test fixtures as required. The role also involves working with process development and tooling engineers to design fixtures, tooling and custom assembly equipment for the manufacturing line or for testing. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years Mechanical Design experience in manufacturing processes or disposable medical device design. Material knowledge of plastics preferred. Relocation is available for the right candidate Salary commensurate with experience.

 

Position Responsibilities:Contribute to product design teams by playing a lead role on the ergonomic design of the user interface part of the product as well as procedure room layoutCreation of 3D models of design concepts of next generation products.Support design engineers with 3D modeling of all components and assemblies throughout the development process.Design and development of test fixtures to test product conceptsCreation of 2D prints and part and assembly specifications.Work with design engineers to identify and document critical dimensions and specify parts correctlyCreation of cross section views of parts and assemblies for tolerance analysisManagement and upkeep of Solidworks file libraryCompletion of FEA studiesWork with process development engineers to design fixtures/equipment for improving takt time, yield, ergonomic layout and safety on the manufacturing line

 

 

Basic Qualifications:Bachelors Degree in Mechanical engineering or Industrial DesignInnovative and a skilled designer with 4 or more years Mechanical Design experience in medical device and/or manufacturing process designProficient in Solidworks and outstanding design/drafting skillsExpert in GD&T Knowledge of Human Factors standardsCOSMOS or similar FEA experienceKnowledgeable in the use of plastics and metal for devices and mechanisms; a solid understanding of materials, their characteristics, their advantages/tradeoffs, and their proper application.Knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing techniques for plastic parts; (e.g., molding, joining methods, machining, laminating, extruding). Ability to apply understanding of manufacturing principles to create products that are designed for manufacturabilityKnowledge of motion control techniques and fixture design preferred (e.g., pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics).Machine shop experience preferred (e.g., CNC mill, lathe, drill press, grinding machines, etc.)
