Data Storage Engineer

The Data Storage Engineer is the technical expert involved in planning, implementing, administering, and managing storage networking and operations. Responsible for storage planning and forecasting; architecting storage layouts and networks; planning storage connectivity; storage product evaluations; data access performance tuning; data replication and disaster recovery procedures; data archiving (including all storage tiers and tape solutions); lifecycle management of structured and other unstructured content; and storage inventory maintenance for both array-based and file-based storage systems. Design and implement data storage systems. Manage Hitachi AMS 1000 Storage Systems and associated Brocade switches, and Qlogic HBAs Manage SAN connected backup devices including D2DT devices. Monitor and manage storage performance and tune as needed. Manage data replication and data disaster preparedness. Other duties as assigned.

Strong general knowledge of storage including general hardware knowledge, RAID levels, appropriate storage classes for a given application Strong knowledge of performance benchmarking/tuning at a host, fabric, and storage level Familiarity and experience with data replication, tape backup, data archival, and disaster recovery concepts and procedures. Experience with data movement using block-level copies (snapshots), replication techniques and file system copies. Ability to deal with all levels of personnel throughout the company, outside vendors and suppliers. At least six years of technical experience including combination of hardware and software. Technical project management experience. Must have strong written and oral communications skills, high analytical skills, and the ability to deal with people effectively. Position requires that a candidate be available after hours or on weekends to provide remote and on site technical support, systems upgrades, and project work as needed.
