We currently have an exciting position in Dublin, CA for a Manager of Logistics.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Logistics Manager will manage the Logistics and Distribution function to include directing and coordinating employees involved in the storage, shipment, and receipt of materials, and stocking the Finish Goods areas. This also includes the movement of materials and supplies within facilities as needed and the materials handling of materials into and out of Manufacturing as well as the maintenance of inventories, cycle counting and related records and transactions.
This position will establish and modify operational methods and procedures to improve existing materials flow processes, including the proper use and safety of operating equipment and roles within the departments. In addition, this position will ensure that all the maintenance of all equipment is current and scheduled as well as planned in the budgets.
The Manager will analyze, develop and implement best practices, ensure staff is trained and training records are kept current for the purpose of GMP, ISO compliance and continuous improvement. In this position the individual will be managed through department leads, warehouse and traffic coordinators and inventory coordinators. The accountability and ownership is with the Supervisor and his/her ability to work with these individuals to ensure materials are received from proper suppliers, delivered to inventory, made available to meet the production demands/schedule and or available for finished goods, packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner per customer requirements. Act in the capacity of project manager, sponsor leader, facilitator or senior participant as required to support various special projects within the scope of operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Schedule and assign work assignments to stores/shipping/receiving personnel.Interface with other departments for problem resolution.Oversee the material flow from receiving, stores, shipping, and within the facility including other storage facilities external to Carl Zeiss Meditec. Document procedures, activity reports, and statistical reports on performance measures.Work closely with Sales Order Administration, to ensure proper prioritization and distribution of finish goods to Customers. Ensure the security and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control practices. Establish comprehensive measurements of internal/external performance which are essential to gaining and maintaining logistical leadership. (Benchmarking best practices!)Supervise and report on the physical inventory cycle counts on a daily, weekly and or monthly basis. Issue parts to manufacturing and field support on timely basis in accordance with the production and manufacturing schedules. Maintain inventory records for physical custody and accuracy of finished goods and products. Includes working with Finance in establishing inventory carrying cost and determining what are acceptable inventory levels.Ensure receipt of and timely reporting of materials.Ensure proper shipment methods and procedures are used at all times.Responsible for the employment, promotion, employee performance evaluation, training, motivation, counseling, and discipline of direct reports.Ensure workplace safety at all times.Analyze, recommend and coordinate transportation, carriers and routing to ensure that the most cost efficient transportation is used, which will satisfy both customers and company requirements. In addition work with customers to establish inventory audits internal and at suppliers. Included is to establish with third party providers to set inventory services of receipt and distribution.Schedule and coordinate packaging and shipping with Carriers, Craters and Freight forwarders once notified by Order Processing. Develop programs to audit and monitor Carrier rates and changes via agreements. Individual will work directly with Purchasing to renegotiate agreements at time of renewal.Inspect freight for damages, prepares and negotiates claims.Audit and ensure that all products leaving Carl Zeiss Meditec meet the GMP packaging and handling guidelines.Resolve problems such as misdirected and/or damaged goods.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Director of Purchasing and Materials and Supply Chain Management.
REQUIREMENTS:BA/BS in business, information processing, supply chains, distribution logistics, warehousing and or material operations is desirable.Must have proven leadership ability that is normally acquired through ten to fifteen (10-15) years direct related experience in management level positions.Project management and contract negotiation skills are required. Experience must be in a FDA/GMP or ISO operation environment.Position requires ten to fifteen (10-15) years working knowledge with manufacturing and/or warehouse business systems including MRP, master scheduling, production control, purchasing, inventory control, manufacturing, store rooms, shipping, receiving, traffic, material handling and service.APICS certification, with demonstrated knowledge of MRP, PC/IC, JIT, GMP and negotiation skills is required. Minimum of seven years supervising an E/M warehouse operation with responsibility for inventory control.Association and or membership in Counsel of Logistics Management.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.Well-rounded knowledge of stores, shipping and receiving activities.Working skills and ability to train on equipment and material handling.Ability to effectively speak before groups of employees.Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; calculate percentages, proportions, area, volume.PC keyboard literacy for data entry. Must have demonstrated leadership ability.Set priorities. Problem resolution skills within and among departments.Ability to define and improve procedures.Must have working knowledge of ERP Operating Systems and Scanning Equipment.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop and climb stairs in warehouse. Warehouse employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds with or without accommodation. The employee works indoors and/or outdoors, and wears ESD protective clothing: shop coat, ESD safe shoes or shoe straps with shoes that have closed toe and heel, and gloves.
