SUMMARY

VivaScan Corporation, a small business located in West Boylston, Massachusetts, a minute from I-190, is a startup company working to develop a noninvasive blood glucose monitor for diabetics.  With the explosion of the diabetes epidemic in the U.S. and elsewhere, VivaScan is well positioned to meet the huge demand for a new, less painful way to test blood sugar.  We are building a team of exceptional people that have a passion to help improve the lives of those living with diabetes by committing to focused and steady product development, building a strong team environment and contributing to the company’s overall growth and development.

Seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in design of solutions for handheld instruments.  The candidate, working within a small team, will analyze mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical instrument requirements, work on improvements to the current prototypes, design/develop/assemble/test new solutions, bench test prototypes and manage designs/documentation.  This position is suited for an individual who is able to work independently and find creative solutions to complicated problems that might reach beyond the applicant’s field of specialty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A successful candidate for this position will work within a small team and have the following duties and responsibilities:

·         Analyze mechanical hardware requirements, design and develop solutions, outsource manufacturing, assemble and bench-test/troubleshoot new enhanced prototypes of a handheld medical device.

·         Maintain documentation.

·         Design bench-testing procedures; design and build testing rigs; perform bench-testing and optimization studies of prototype noninvasive blood glucose monitors.

·         Perform multidisciplinary scientific/R&D tasks to complement efforts of a small team.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering plus at least four years of applicable experience.  A Master’s Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering is preferred, with 2 years of relevant experience.  It is required that applicants have:

·         Experience in mechanical design of portable instruments (plastic chassis, incorporation of electro-mechanical parts and optical components).

·         Significant experience in CAD design with SolidWorks.

·         Sufficient mathematical background and interest to perform scientific and R&D tasks.

Successful candidates will find experience in the following areas helpful, though they are not required for consideration:

·         Exposure in the areas of medical device development, including familiarity with FDA guidelines.

·         Human factors design, including development of user test cases.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Because the working environment at VivaScan is highly collaborative, a successful candidate must have effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively technical and scientific details with colleagues, regulatory officials, and patient-oriented focus groups.

Resumes from candidates should be submitted to skun@vivascan.com with a cover letter indicating why the applicant feels appropriately qualified  for the position.  Resumes without an acceptable cover letter will not be considered.

No phone calls or agency calls, please.
