St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrillation Division is committed to reducing the effect atrial fibrillation has on its patients!  Atrial fibrillation (AF or A Fib) is the most common abnormal heart rhythm.  It is a very fast, uncontrolled heart rhythm that occurs when the upper chambers of the heart try to beat so fast that they can only quiver.  We are seeking exceptional candidates to fill the following position in our St. Paul, MN location: PRINCIPAL HARDWARE ENGINEER The successful candidate will become part of a team that develops safe and innovative electronic instruments to improve the lives of patients with Atrial Fibrillation. We are looking for a technical leader that demonstrates a drive for excellence in a high paced results oriented environment.  The candidate must be able to lead cross functional teams from the product definition stage though product launch.  To be considered for this position the candidate must demonstrate their ability to design, and/or lead a team through design, of complex mechanical and electrical design activities, facilitate collaboration, coordinate dependencies, and manage engineering work to deliver a product that meets requirements within budget and schedule.   Development tasks include: • Perform as a technical leader/mentor for a group of 3-6 engineers. • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates electrical and electro-mechanical systems, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment. • Perform analysis and simulation of complex circuits and motor controls • Able to facilitate cross-functional discussion to enable completion of project requirements. • Provide schedule and budget analysis of required work and monitor execution of tasks as compared to plan. • Identify, Evaluate, and Manage technical risks. • Develop and execute design verifications and validations. • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality. • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release. • Assist with regulatory submissions and component/system FMEA’s • Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities. • Write and submit intellectual property (patents). • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development. • Investigates and evaluates existing technologies. • Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support development. • Support the transition of the product into Manufacturing Qualifications B.S. or M.S. in mechanical or Electrical engineering or appropriate technical discipline; Minimum of 10 years product development; Minimum of 5 years in design of medical products; knowledge of product development, manufacturing, clinical, and regulatory requirements; strong influence/communication skills; planning and organization competency; knowledge of DOE and FMEA techniques.
