Thoratec Corporation currently has an opportunity available as a Payroll Manager in our Accounting Department located in our Corporate HQ located in Pleasanton, Ca.
Thoratec is looking for a seasoned Payroll professional to help in the ongoing development of our growing financial system, processes, and organization. This role is required to understand the business needs of these areas and to design and implement the appropriate technology solutions.

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.).. Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provides General Ledger support. Provide continuous leadership to the payroll staff to ensure Customer Service standards are met. Will work closely with Finance and Human Resources.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Accountable for the accuracy of all manual paychecks and selected system generated checks, including computation and calculation of special checks for overtime, bonus pay, vacation pay, and termination pay.
· Responsible for the correct accounting and accruals of all benefit programs and performs analysis related to fringe rates..
· Ensures payroll related portion of employee stock transactions are accurate and recorded on a timely basis.
· Accountable for all employee automated records for Federal and State withholding taxes, social security, insurance and retirement.
· Performs audits and insures all quarterly payroll and annual W2 information are accurate and submitted on a timely basis.
· Responsible for SOX testing and compliance, including implement new process and reporting procedures as necessary.
· Performs pre payroll audit and makes adjustments, corrections, or requests for information.
· Performs post payroll audit of payroll system output.
· Handles escalations, complex or non-routine situations for all levels of employees and management, while providing root cause analysis and corrective action.
· Provides ongoing analysis and reports from various data sources for the purpose of management review and decision making.
· Understands relational database technology and writes ad-hoc reports to troubleshoot discrepancies between benefit providers and company records.
· Prepares payments and maintains files for health, life and A&D insurance, worker’s compensation insurance, garnishments.
· Prepares payroll related journal entries and account reconciliations
· Responds to auditing and regulatory inquiries.
· Review and refine or implement U.S. payroll strategies, processes, and policies and ensure compliance.
· Lead project activities related to payroll functions bringing exceptional value to the company through total cost reduction, streamlining processes, automation etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· BS/BA degree or equivalent experience required.
· A minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated work experience in the management of a large and diverse payroll operation.
· Experience with ADP products and services.
· Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to lead and instruct others to realize their full potential.
· Ability to handle interruption and changes without becoming less productive.
· Demonstrated ability to listen and anticipate customer needs. Good written and verbal communication skills.

· Provide leadership skills that support the organizational goals, value & mission by

· SOX experience preferred
