Senior Competitive Analyst

The Senior Competitive Analyst supports Varian product managers, clinical specialists, Marketing and Sales teams through analysis of competitive products and the overall market, then effectively positions these product for use by the marketing and sales forces and PM organization. A huge responsibility of this role is to provide an honest and accurate assessment of each product's position in the market, and our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This position is both strategic and tactical, and is best filled by someone who wants to influence actual revenue and selling outcomes.Successful candidates will be comfortable interacting with the sales force, worldwide customers, and a highly motivated PM/marketing team. Candidates must have the desire to provide a strong voice within Product Management and Marketing, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced marketplace. Primary Responsibilities: Perform analysis of competitive products by self-directed research leveraging all available resources. Produce succinct documentation on competitors for distribution to direct and channel sales forces. Influence product requirements to contest competitive offerings. Respond to competitive announcements with quick blurbs to sales force. Developer a series of short competitive knock-offs (tell your customers to ask this vendor about the following) that highlight Varian's advantages. Create a database (repository) of competitive materials and messages, including Varian responses. Promote this repository internally to Sales and Marketing with frequent short updates and alerts. Help product management develop clear and compelling competitive marketing messages to position each product, improving win ratios in all market segments. Test, measure, and improve the effectiveness of messaging. Write short-form marketing collateral using these messages to influence customers to purchase {this product}. Support sales and marketing efforts as required. Some travel required (including international). Act as a company representative in customer, analyst, industry group, and press-facing situations.Qualifications" BS/BA degree, CS or EE degree a plus, MBA or business classes a plus." 2 - 6 years experience with similar medical technology in customer-facing roles (presales engineering, sales customer support, product marketing)." Strong fundamentals in Varian technology (radiotherapy, oncology, x-ray), providing a deep appreciation of the features, options and advantages of various products in this space. Must be able to talk technically with product management, sales and customers. " Previous competitive analysis experience is a big plus." Knowledge of influential industry analysts, press and market segments a plus." Comfortable with public speaking in groups of 20 or more individuals." Driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of urgency. Must be resourceful, proactive and aggressive." Highly organized, detail-oriented and possessing a high level of integrity."
