Senior Software Developer

 

Department: Engineering, Software Development

Reports to: Director, Software Development

 

General: A qualified candidate will have experience participating in the design, development and maintenance of enterprise level Java based web systems.  BodyMedia requires technologists with well rounded backgrounds and a thorough understanding of a wide breadth of technologies.  A Senior Software Developer will be asked to own large scale project tasks from start to finish.  This may mean working from the level of data architecture design up to the implementation of the UI.  As a senior member of the development team, the candidate will be expected to introduce and incorporate the latest technologies into the BodyMedia code base.  Prior experience as a development project lead is desirable.

 

Key performance measures: Success is measured by the development team’s ability to deliver well designed and implemented products according to the company’s projected product road map.  All developers are expected to be productive members of this team, completing tasks in a timely fashion with an eye towards quality and testability.  As a Senior Software Developer, a candidate is expected to both participate in and drive these development efforts.

 

Education requirements: A four year degree in computer science or related field is required.  Graduate work is desirable.

 

Experience:Minimum 5 years experience in software development, with an emphasis on Java based web systemsParticipation in the development of complex systems.  Experience on these projects should be of increasing level of responsibility.

 

Environment:  BodyMedia’s web systems utilize a host of different technologies centered upon the Java platform.  Underlying technologies incorporated within our applications are Struts, Tiles, Spring, Hibernate, Axis2, Tomcat 5 and Oracle 10g.  We also utilize C/C++ for low level device interaction.  BodyMedia creates products for sale in the medical device marketplace and accordingly follows a rigorous QSR procedure.
