Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Arcxis Biotechnologies currently has an open position for Sr. Mechanical Engineer.  This candidate will be responsible for the development of complex instrumentation platforms and plastic consumables.

This position requires a seasoned, hands-on engineer with experience working from concept to production. Experience in the design and packaging of Biomedical/Medical Devices or Semiconductor equipment is a must.

Arcxis Biotechnologies (www.arcxis.com) is a private company located in the Koll business park near I-680 in Pleasanton, CA.  The company’s product efforts are focused on developing unique reagents & instrumentation targeting life science researchers.  The company’s first product provides an easy, economical and effective means for preparing biological samples for analysis.

 

EducationBS/MS in Mechanical Engineering

 

Experience RequiredMinimum 5(MS) or 8(BS) years of mechanical design in product development of bench instrumentation, preferably in life science laboratory equipment or medical device field Developed and released products under ISO 2001 or ISO 13485 guidelines Solidworks or ProEngineer proficiency

 

Skills and Attributes RequiredDetail-oriented in design development and documentation in an ISO 2001 / 13485 manufacturing operation Experience with mechanical/electro-mechanical devices, pneumatics and fluidics systems Defined the architecture of mechanical instruments System packaging experience including, chassis layout and design, heat  management and human factors Strong knowledge of low to medium volume manufacturing methods with focus on cost and high reliability Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Skills and Attributes DesiredExperience with laboratory liquid handling equipment and lab automation, including fluidic and robotic systems Experience with designing of opto-mechanical systems Experience with Lab View Managed small projects and engineering teams Experience with Metal and Plastics casting processes. Rapid prototyping and production

 

Job ResponsibilitiesDefine requirements and specifications for instruments subassemblies and assemblies Design, Procure, Assemble and debug instrument subassemblies and system packaging to meet specifications Assemble and debug prototype and pilot production units Develop and release tools and documentation to transfer designs to production Qualify and manage vendors, consultants and contractors Work with appropriate bodies to assure CE and UL compliance
