Responsible for the systems administration, support and troubleshooting for all operational aspects of Smith & Nephew’s global computer systems environments. In addition, responsibilities include maintaining Service Level Agreements (SLAs) established by the business; identifying operational problem trends for I.S. Management review; and making continuous efforts to improve processes which aid in streamlining workflow and high availability of systems. Challenges include managing change to the operational systems with no loss of service and handling a high level of support, whilst ensuring that scheduled operational work is also completed accurately and on time.

• Monitor and support the operation of data centre servers and equipment including; responding to error messages on consoles, monitoring performance levels of systems and of backup jobs, researching and interpreting error/console messages from system software and performing required actions, and working with internal and external resources to bring to satisfactory closure.
• Provide 2nd level technical support, which includes centralized problem and service request resolution. Categorising calls, logging detailed journals and solutions, and providing call follow-up to users to ensure quality closure.

• As driven by the needs of the business, provide out of hours support and be on rotational call, 24 hours a day; 7 days a week.
• Perform all activities in compliance with relevant GMP and Quality System standards and specifically with FDA Quality System Regulation and EN46000.
• Perform all activities in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

Required Skills

• Educated to High School Diploma level (or equivalent), or relevant experience in a technical role.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server.
• Working knowledge of Unix OS
• Working knowledge of AS/400s.

Desired:

• SQL and SAP knowledge.
• ITIL Foundation certification.
• Microsoft certification: MCP in Windows 2000/3 server.
