Vice President of R&D, Cardiac Surgery Systems

Position can be based in Salt Lake City, UTor Irvine, CA

Executive Summary:
This individual will be the key engineering leader for our Cardiac Surgical Systems franchise and will report directly to the General Manager. This key strategic leader will be responsible for the continued product pipeline and rapid cadence of devices for the CSS market. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage Edwards’ track record of Medical Device industry innovations to develop a portfolio of exciting new products in the area of minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

Job Description: Direct the strategy, identification and implementation of technical programs. Determine direction and adequacy of product designs and test results, and recommend changes. Lead and develop the management and technical team. Act as liaison with marketing and clinical community, particularly to facilitate new product input. Work closely with Physicians and marketing to determine product needs and requirements, and conduct product clinical tests. Interact effectively with senior management and internal departments to achieve program directives and goals. Responsible for budget preparation and management, and personnel and research strategies.

 

Our Requirements:
We are looking for an R&D leader with medical device industry experience, significant business acumen and the technical depth to drive new product innovation. Minimum of 15 years experience in an engineering capacity in a medical device industry. Minimum of three years in a director level position Significant experience in Manufacturing / Operations environment within the medical device industry. Prefer prior product experience with disposable medical devices and cannula or other plastic injection molded medical products. (Relevant experience includes; catheter, stents, surgical instruments, orthopedics, endoscopic surgical products or minimally invasive surgical tools) A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. An advanced Engineering degree or MBA preferred. Must have a successful track record of organizing and leading multi-functional new product project teams in a fast cycle time development environment, and demonstrated ability to successfully drive a product development process from market/business requirements all the way through to production. Must possess in-depth knowledge of cardiovascular medicine in order to communicate effectively with physicians and consultants. Ability to travel as needed, both domestic and abroad, is also required.
