Sr. Project Engineer - Industrial Plant Expansion
SR. PROJECT ENGINEER – INDUSTRIAL PLANT EXPANSION
Basic Function:
The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling all phases of design/construction work for major plant modification and expansion projects requiring the combined efforts of several engineers and designers, craftsmen, and/or construction contractors. In addition, Sr. Project Engineer may be assigned the responsibility of providing engineering and project support and control/assistance to operating and maintenance departments on specific problems requiring engineering skills, expertise and judgment. Projects are expected to be accomplished within or below approved budget and schedule limits.
Major Activities:
· Manage capital and expense projects. The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating scope definition, budget, engineering, design, drafting, procurement, installation, startup, and checkout of equipment and systems required on assigned projects for modifications or additions to plant process and equipment.
· Provide technical analysis and problem solving to reduce operating costs. This includes investigating and defining the problem and determining the necessary scope of work to effectively complete assigned projects. Also included are developing and evaluating alternatives, recommending solutions, and setting up programs to execute the solution selected and approved by plant management.
· Provide technical assistance to other departments and aid other staff personnel.
· Research new equipment and facilities required to improve the existing process, evaluate feasibility, and make recommendations to management.
· Prepare formal reports. These include scopes of work, cost analysis, project schedules, budget forecasts, technical analysis, weekly and monthly reports.
· Makes all major technical decisions required to implement the project scope. Reviews and approves detailed work be designer, design engineers, and other project engineers
· Has supervisory responsibility for technical content, safety, cost, and schedule control. Supervises construction forces on a project through the contractor’s field supervisor.
Requirements:
· Must have BS Degree or strong equivalent in depth background and 5 – 10 years of practical engineering experience.
· Good management skills are required for preparation of project schedule, budget and coordination of large number of persons involved.
· Must have broad plant knowledge and background to coordinate and direct the work of persons in many different specialties.
· Must understand plant process and special conditions which exist in each area of the plant and how they interact.
· Must be able to produce detailed status, and scheduled reports to the Plant Manager
· Must be able to direct maintenance and construction contractor’s efforts through their supervisors and managers
· Major equipment selection and purchase
· Work with engineering staff, production, maintenance, and process engineers
· Work with outside vendors and contractor engineering firms
