Sr. Transaction Tax Accountant

Position Summary:To ensure compliance with state and local tax rules and regulations for Commercial Metals Company (“CMC”) and related companies.  To provide accurate, timely, and functional transaction tax reporting.  To effectively use tax planning and recommend tax strategies to minimize the overall tax liability of the company.  To ensure CMC is properly registered and filing transaction taxes in all jurisdictions where required.  To handle state and local transaction tax audits.  To manage CMC’s resale and exemption certificates and certificate management system.  To maintain CMC’s automated sales and use tax configurations. Responsibilities: Reviews state and local sales & use and other transaction tax returns,,,,, estimated payments and prepayments including work papers and supporting schedules to ensure proper documentation of all relevant information and reconcile transaction tax accounts monthly. Assists with state and local sales & use, excise, unclaimed property and property tax audits.  Assists with establishing samples, gathering and reviewing documentation, drafting and filing tax protests as necessary.  Assists with negotiating settlements with state and local taxing authorities. Assists with the development, analysis, and implementation of state and local tax reduction and deferral strategies. Assist with coordination of property tax accruals, renditions, filings and payment of tax.  Analyzes and reconciles the property tax liability accounts. Assists with maintenance of sales and use tax configurations in Sabrix. Assists with unclaimed property compliance and audits. Responsible for location set-up for new locations in automated sales and use tax system, including verification of applicable sales & use taxes, registering properly with state and local jurisdictions and ensuring tax is properly collected and remitted for new locations Keeps currently informed on tax law changes, court decisions, tax regulations and Company-initiated developments.Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in transaction tax administration in public and/or industry. Familiarity with multi-jurisdiction tax laws and regulations. Understanding of multi-entity environment and reporting requirements. Previous experience in manufacturing industry. Possess analytical skills necessary to monitor tax law changes and determine impact to the company and to interpret legal documents. Ability to research and defend tax positions and effectively communicate and negotiate with auditors. Possess good communication skills and ability to work well with a team environment. SAP, Sabrix, RIA InSource, CCH, Microsoft Office, & Internet literate.
