Bookkeeper

The Abilities Center of Southern NJ, Inc. is a multi-faceted non-profit corporation whose mission is to develop employment opportunities for persons with barriers to entering or re-entering the work force.

The Abilities Center is pleased to welcome applications for the position of Bookkeeper within the Business Office.  This position will report to the Director of Finance and Administrative Supports.

High school diploma + 3 years related experience in a business office managing both payables and receivables are required of applicants as well as demonstrated knowledge and use of computer accounting applications.

Candidates must have: ability to relate positively to others; ability to communicate and be understood in English; possess excellent organizational and analytical ability; demonstrated advanced working knowledge of computer spreadsheet programs, cash control procedures, and bank reconciliation; and ability to attend to several tasks simultaneously.  Position requires physical capabilities of sitting, standing, bending, and reaching; visual acuity to review financial documents and recognize errors is needed.

Essential functions of the position include:  1)  Perform duties including but not limited to:  accounts payable and receivable; credit and collections data; bank statements and reconciliation of same; manage journal entries and reconciliation of general ledger; and monitor daily bank balances.  2)  Assist Director of Finance and Administrative Supports in preparing for year end agency audit, 3)  Maintain current records in organized manner, and keep inventory of past records, 4)  In absence of Director of Finance and Administrative Supports, work with other administrative staff to maintain attendance and other confidential bookkeeping records, 5)  Perform other bookkeeping functions as outliined in procedures manuals, including departmental billings, 6)  Provide back up coverage to front desk / other administrative functions.
