Our client is a major front runner in assisting African Americans primarily in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area providing more than 22 outcome-based programs and initiatives. It has an annual budget of $5 million, employs more than 70 full time staff, and presently serves more than 7,000 residents of Broward County annually through extended after school and in school programs, diversion program, community development, parental awareness, research and advocacy, housing counseling, housing development, and employment and training.The goal of the organization is to act as a catalyst for change and leadership with a social entrepreneurial spirit in Broward County. The Chief Development Officer (CDO), working with the CEO, will direct and coordinate the capital campaign strategies and prepare the organization for a substantial increase in ongoing annual support. The CDO will increase annual support for operations and programs, set up development systems, and supervise a team of staff that includes an administrative assistant, vice president of development public relations and special events, and capital campaign counsel. The CDO will create an atmosphere and culture of development and stewardship throughout the organization. The CDO will also be responsible for setting a stewardship program for corporate investors and individual donors as well as developing a prospect research program and planned giving program. The incumbent will also be expected to manage a group of major gift prospective donors. As member of the senior management team, the CDO will work closely with the CEO and other senior management staff as well as board members on the long-term strategy of the organization. SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and implement with staff all functions in the fundraising program including Board Giving, Major Gifts, Donors, Corporate Sponsorships and Support, Foundation Grants, Annual Giving, Prospect Management, and Special Events. • Build the development department’s administrative infrastructure including data management systems, research, processes and policies. • Develop strategic short and long-term fundraising plans and goals and opportunities for the organization and execute their implementation. • As a member of the senior management team, provide input and opinions to the executive leadership team on overall organizational decisions as appropriate. • Oversee day-to-day management responsibility for the development department team; hire, train, supervise and evaluate development staff. • Provide Board with adequate support and tools to engage in fundraising, partner with Board and CEO on large asks as necessary and appropriate. • Develop and manage with the CFO department budgets, including projection of fundraising revenue. • Plan and implement an on-going an annual operations as well as major gifts program with measurable goals and outcomes. • Develop and implement fundraising activities that building upon the current planned giving program. • Build and administer a portfolio of major donors and prospects. • Effectively utilize outside consultants as needed. • Coordinate annual fundraising activities and special events. • Undertake all other duties as assigned by the CEO Since major gift fundraising is a process that sometimes evolves over a number of years, preference will be given to those candidates with better than average tenure in previous and present positions and a career path that includes continual increasing responsibility. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: • Minimum Bachelors Degree and five or more years in development or a related function, with recent experience leading a fundraising team. • Participation in or leadership of a capital campaign or significant major gifts solicitation a plus. • The ability to effectively develop and implement departmental short-term and long-term planning needs including goals & objectives. • Excellent command MS Office. • Strong leadership and management skills. • Outstanding writing and communications skills. • Organizational, administrative, and analytical skills. • Creativity and problem solving skills. • Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks and priorities. • Experience in fundraising for a community based organization a plus.
