Defined Benefits Analyst

Summary: The Benefits Analyst is a key position within the Employee Benefit and Retirement Programs department, responsible for the benefit programs for over 35,000 employees and 12,000 retirees of the American Red Cross. Operating in a customer service focused environment, the department is actively involved in the development and implementation of programs that attract and retain talented, diverse and committed employees.Responsibilities: Analyst will perform professional assignments and tasks in the administration of the American Red Cross’ traditional, defined benefit plan at the National level. Work closely with recordkeeping and administrative service providers in administering the plan. Support internal customers [Biomedical, Chapters and National Head Quarters] on a day to day basis. Assist in identifying, developing, implementing and communicating benefit programs or initiatives that support the business and employees. Work with management as needed to evaluate the company's benefit programs and administration; develop solutions to identified issues; and implement changes in an effective and timely manner. Provide recommendations based on analysis and trend studies. Build strong partnering relationships with third-party administrators, actuaries and consultants. Ensure compliance of benefit programs with ERISA, Dept. of Labor, IRS regulations and audit standards. Develop and provide detailed analysis on benefit programs to: evaluate costs and competitiveness; identify trends and risks; determine and recommend appropriate plan design changes and/or mitigation strategies. Research complex participant issues; perform, audit and reconcile complex benefit calculations and processes, monitor pension payroll. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or a minimum of five years of relevant experience in defined benefit plan design, implementation or administration is required. Specialized knowledge of defined benefit plans, ERISA, and benefit related laws is required At least two years of experience in an analyst role is highly preferred. Prior experience working on complex participant research cases and benefit calculations is essential. Strong analytical, organization and communication skills, and experience working with all level of management, outside vendors and consultants is required.
