Development Associate
The Appalachian Mountain Club seeks a Development Associate who will provide programmatic and administrative support to senior staff in the Development Department, manage the donor acknowledgment process and stewardship benefits; conduct and manage donor research, participate in and provide event support, manage gift tracking, and assist in the writing,editing, and production of development materials; and write donor correspondence. The Development Associate needs to be an excellent communicator with outstanding verbal, listening, writing skills. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Development.
Responsibilities: Manage research and correspondence files for major donors and prospects through the Raisers Edge. Conduct research on donors and prospects, incorporate electronic notes into biography files, produce research reports as needed. Maintain the prospect tracking function in Raisers Edge. Manage and organize inventory of development materials, print materials, including maps, brochures, and photos, as well as supplies. Execute mailings, including invitations to events, follow-up mailings to event participants and prospects, and stewardship mailings. Track capital gifts, accurately produce acknowledgements, and generate pledge reminders monthly. Manage low donor acknowledgment process for direct mail, gifts with dues, and telemarketing efforts. Participate and assist in the planning of development events. Help coordinate and prepare for a range of events from 1 hour development gatherings to 5-day trips. This may include mailing list selections, reviewing invitations, confirmation packets, confidential medical and liability forms, and other printed materials, working with vendors, helping with registration and record-keeping, setting up and breaking down events, managing event photo files, and follow up among other duties. Travel to and assist in leading and staffing outdoor events at AMC backcountry facilities. Assist in the editing, production, and photo selection for development’s printed materials and proposals. General office duties, including photocopying, errands, and filing. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in a development office; Or Associate’s degree and three to four years of office experience. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to work with confidential donor information. Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge. Experience with office management, record-keeping, and database. Ability to present information in a logical, clear, and easy-to-read manner.
This position requires frequent trips 6-8 times yearly to backcountry locations requiring ability to ski, snowshoe, or hike comfortably up to 7 miles in difficult terrain in all weather conditions,carrying loads of up to 20 pounds.
