Development, Marketing & Event Coordinator
Company: The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association is a 101-year-old, nonprofit organization that provides support to more than 11,000 active and retired Los Angeles City firefighters and their families. Our organization raises funds for and manages the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund, a 501(c)(3), dedicated to helping the families of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty. The Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association also provides a robust, self-insured medical plan, unique sick & injury benefits and life insurance to its members.
Description: This is a new position that will work directly with and report to the Development & Marketing Director. The Development, Marketing & Event Coordinator is responsible for:Managing and coordinating special events to generate funds, attendance, publicity and/or increased membership and volunteersLocating and booking facilities, food, entertainment, equipment, trophies and any other necessary vendors or itemsSoliciting donors and participants, raffle prizes, silent and live auction itemsPlanning and organizing ticket sales; creating all necessary signage and displaysSetting-up and breaking down events; coordinating activities; recruiting, training, organizing and managing volunteers Resolving pre, post and on-site event problems to ensure events run smoothly; managing on-site cash flow, helping to process and maintain financial data from fundraising programs and eventsWorking within a specified and approved budget Developing and maintaining effective, long-term working relationships with donors and maintaining donor and participant data basesPromoting, publicizing and marketing all LAFRA events and programs and coordinate mass mailings Helping to develop marketing material and research grant opportunitiesMay direct and supervise the work of college interns and help guide the Marketing Assistant.
Qualifications: This multi-talented professional should have a minimum of 5-10 years of event planning, fundraising and marketing experience. The successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to originate a variety of written assignments, including correspondence with donors and volunteers, press releases for the media and content for the LAFRA web site and firefighters “Grapevine” magazine. Candidates must have strong research skills and a talent for soliciting donors via cold calls and in-person networking. The successful candidate also must be creative, outgoing, detail-oriented, have good common sense, a strong work ethic, self-motivation, a high level of integrity, the ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment and the ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and nights.
Exceptional hands-on technical skills including experience with Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publisher, Power Point and other software applications is required.
