Director of Business Development

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Director of Business Development reports to the Vice President for Field Operations and is responsible for increasing the earned income of The Trustees of Reservations in service to its mission and guided by the objectives of its strategic plan.  The Director will analyze existing operations and potential opportunities, identify strategic priorities, develop a plan for improving performance, build internal capacity, identify external markets and work with staff to implement the plan.  The Director of Business Development works with the Finance and Administration Division, Advancement Division, the Regional Directors and Superintendents, and the Marketing Director, and is advised by the Business Development Task Force and Senior Management Team.





RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Establish a portfolio of income-generating activities with the greatest revenue-generating potential and ensure effective implementation;
· Establish metrics, monitor and report on performance toward earned-income goals;
· Provide market and financial analysis of existing and proposed income opportunities;
· Assess and improve internal staff capacity to develop and manage revenue-generating activities;
· Identify and coordinate with external partners;
· Work with Finance and Administration to oversee the development of requests for proposals and contract management with vendors as needed;
· Lead and facilitate internal and external revenue-related collaborations;
· Manage projects when appropriate.





DUTIES:

· Generate revenues necessary to meet annual goals;
· Improve the performance and management of existing businesses;
· Prepare, analyze and oversee implementation of business plans for proposed income-generating programs or projects;
· Organize and staff Business Development Task Force;
· Develop and/or identify new program initiatives;
· Work with Finance and Administration to process and document requests for proposals and execute contracts;
· Assist with Field Operations administrative and planning functions including annual planning and budgeting efforts;
· Identify and partner with external resources to assist with the profitability of Trustees revenue generation such as business schools, professional associations and the Massachusetts Film Office;
· Create and manage training opportunities for Trustees staff;
· Represent The Trustees in speech and in writing;
· Other duties as required.
 



REQUIREMENTS:

The Trustees are seeking an energetic self-starter with broad experience in business planning and development, market and financial analysis, budget management, contracting, managing and motivating in a matrix organization, marketing and operations. Strong negotiating, leadership, and interpersonal skills are necessary. The ideal candidate should have some experience in the recreational, hospitality and/or tourism industries and 5+ years of work experience.  He or she will be a public-spirited entrepreneur with some public-private partnering experience who works well on cross-sector teams, with a board, and as part of an organization.  An MBA is desired.
