Director of Public Relations

Our client, the world’s leading cleft charity, whose mission is to help millions of children in developing countries who were born with cleft lips and cleft palates that have never been repaired, seeks a dynamic and innovative Director of Public Relations to develop and broaden its influence to include all aspects of media, including establishing new and cultivating existing relationships in order to further its mission. The Director of Public Relations is responsible for leading and managing all public relations programs for our fast growing organization.

Key responsibilities include:Develops a communications strategy to define long-term and short-term priorities in support of the organization’s vision and mission, value proposition, and its social impact agenda.Creates and implements marketing and public relations plans to enhance the organization’s image with external audiences, and provide leadership in the strategy and implementation of community activities and events to increase the image and position of the organization’s programs and services.In conjunction with the marketing team and senior management, develops and implements a communications plan that addresses internal and external communications, public relations and strategies and publications.Develops stories that link the organization with cultural trends and events. Oversees the development and distribution of all news press releases and other appropriate methods of dissemination, leveraging Galas and other fundraising, communications and public relations events for maximum exposure.Advises senior executives on messaging, policies, and issues to ensure that communications are clear, concise, and effective. Oversees all print and online collateral, editorial writing, media outreach and message development.Prepares speeches, board presentations, white papers, talking points, market commentaries, and other external/internal communications to meet communications goals and objectives.Enthusiasm and passion for the mission of the organization.

Experience:The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience implementing public relations programs and developing relationships with members of the media.  Agency experience and/or for profit organization experience is preferred.Experience in developing messaging strategies and reputation management programs as well as a proven ability to develop and cultivate external third-party relationships that advance the mission of the organization.Established in the PR community with a well-rounded communications background and a proven track record of success.Excellent oral/written and presentation skills.  Proficiency in preparation and presentation of videos, reports and documents, including collateral and annual reports.Action-oriented, decisive, quick study, with proven ability to accurately analyze information and act.Direct experience working with executive and senior management.

Integrity and grace under stress.

Education:A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s preferred.
