About Queens College

Queens College is one of the most prestigious colleges in The City University of New York and enjoys a national reputation for its liberal arts and sciences and pre-professional programs.  Since 1937, the College has provided exceptional, affordable education to students from 140 countries and prides itself on offering a welcoming environment that builds community and promotes tolerance.

Queens was cited as being an especially popular choice for students who are the first in their family to attend college.

The College was named one of the nation’s 25 “hottest” and “most interesting colleges” by the 2008 Kaplan Newsweek How to Get into College Guide.  To quote the guide:

The school’s biggest claim to fame is the several generations

of lawyers, doctors and other professionals who could not

afford the Ivies and say Queens changed their lives.

This year, The Princeton Review praised the College for outstanding academics, generous financial aid packages and relatively low costs.  On the graduate level, the 2008 U.S. News America’s Best Colleges lists Queens College among the 15 “Top Public Universities-Masters-North.”

Queens College offers 63 undergraduate majors with 53 graduate majors and continues to develop innovative academic programs.  Its faculty is world-class and includes Guggenheim Fellows, Fulbright Awardees and scholars who are recognized as leaders in their fields.

With the successful completion of a $100 million capital campaign, Queens College is poised for a promising future.

About Institutional Advancement

Leading the American Dream: The Campaign for Queens College has allowed significant investments to be made in expanding education programs, capital renovations and developing community services.

Institutional Advancement is now adding senior-level staff to ensure readiness to maintain and expand fundraising capacity to support the College’s exciting plans for growth.  The fully-staffed development department will include eighteen staff members, including specialists in all fundraising functions, alumni relations and the technology to support a successful and sophisticated operation.  A public/private partnership contributes to the annual operating budget of $85 million, and the College is preparing for a second capital campaign.

About the position:  Director of Annual Fund

The Director of the Annual Fund will be responsible for planning and managing a comprehensive program for raising unrestricted gifts for the annual fund, designated gifts for various academic departments and special projects, through direct mail, telemarketing and donor solicitations.  This position is a key member of the Queens College’s fundraising management team and works closely with the Communications Department, Program Directors and Faculty.

Primary Goals for Year One:

Evaluate the current annual fund campaign and make recommendations on how to build the fundraising efforts targeted to donors up to the $25,000 level. Create giving clubs with gift ranges, benefits and acknowledgments for donors. Participate in alumni events to identify and cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors. Evaluate and enhance the annual fund designated giving program for academic departments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Develop a strategic plan for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors of the annual unrestricted giving program to broaden the base of support and upgrade the level of current giving of the 85,000 alumni and friends of the College.

·  Develop comprehensive direct mail and telemarketing programs to achieve goals; manage vendors and coordinate efforts with communications staff.

·  Develop annual leadership giving recognition groups, and cultivate relationships for unrestricted and designated gifts by recruiting, training and building a strong cadre of volunteers to identify and cultivate relationships for unrestricted gifts.

·  Work with faculty and program staff to develop strategies to conduct campaigns for academic programs, centers and institutes.

·  Work closely with the Major Gift Officers to identify prospects for major gifts above the $25,000 level.

·  Hire, train, supervise and evaluate the following positions: database coordinator, database manager, database administrator, and part-time support staff.

·  Provide regular, accurate revenue reports on the progress of the annual fund.

·  Serve as a key member of the fundraising management team and participate in the development of policy and direction for the College’s fundraising efforts including the upcoming capital campaign.

·  Develop, manage and monitor the budget for the annual fund.

Experience, Qualifications and Personal Characteristics

The Director of the Annual Fund is a new, management-level position and requires the experience, sophistication and supervisory skills to build a comprehensive annual fund program with increased gifts from alumni and friends of the College.  The successful candidate will have:

·  Minimum of 3 years experience coordinating direct mail and telemarketing efforts, including the design, marketing, and production of materials in a complex setting.

·  Expertise with Raiser’s Edge, including tracking, segmentation and analysis of campaign results.
